Between Tomas and Roine they both have chosen disappointing vocalists, especially Tomas' "I AM." I've heard all the arguments regarding how Anders Jansson (vocalist on I AM) can really put his emotions in a song. Well, if it sounds like crap, it's crap IMO. I haven't heard AGENTS OF MERCY yet.

Yep. I can't listen to "I Am" for the same reason.

It's a good thing that Neal and Roine both are putting their heads together for the new Transatlantic album, because the music they've been releasing of late sounds very samey.....talented yes, but boring

Crumbs Dave, I've never heard you being so critical wink

I gave up on buying Neal's albums after "?" coz I just don't listen to them and the formula has been done to death no matter how great it sounds.

What from Roine have you found boring? I'm really looking forward to the fusion album he's been doing on and off with Jonas.

Now that WILL be interesting wink

I'm referring to THE SUM OF NO EVIL. My expectations for that album were so unbelievably high. Instead of the band bringing me on a musical journey of sights, sounds and colors, I was quickly brought down to earth and left there, albeit with periods of pseudopsychedelia. It was just not what I was expecting with all the positive hype prior to its release. I must admit that if not listened to but once every few months, THE SUM OF NO EVIL can still brighten my day smiley

Yes Nov, I too am looking forward to Roine and Jonas' fusion album with great fervor cheesy

I can only agree with you and I still don't know what the problem is with that album.

I mean, it sounds like classic Flower Kings but play TSONE back to back with, say, BITWOA and there is no comparison in terms of enjoyment and the quality of the songs.

Strange undecided

I think the real reason some people felt let down by TSONE is exactly because expectations were so high.
I've gone through this before, back in the seventies. I remember Yes letting me down with Tormato, Genesis letting me down with Abacab, 10cc letting me down with the album after Bloody Tourists - think it was called 10 out of 10. For a while I was also a big Queen fan, until they released the awful Flash soundtrack, and the disappointing Hot Space album.
Most bands tend to do it at some point in their career.
To be fair, TSONE is far superior to any of the albums mentioned above, and I do still enjoy it. I know where Nov is coming from; it sounds like classic TFK, yet it doesn't grab you quite the same as the earlier stuff. However, I do feel that, if TSONE had been their second or third album, everyone would have been raving about it.
It's only because all the previous albums were of such high quality that we feel, by comparison, TSONE has nothing new to offer.
For my money, it's still a great album, even if not their best, and TFK remain one of the very few artists in my collection who have yet to let me down. In fact, I think Steve Hackett is the only other one who can claim that distinction, though Rush aren't far behind, though they have disappointed me a little, with one or two releases.
And I do think Roine and the boys will be back with some excellent new stuff in the next 12 months or so.
wink

Been playing lots of Bodin solo stuff lately.
Had to give Pinup Guru a couple of spins last week. Still an excellent album, even if it doesn't have any guitars on it.
Also played IAM twice. While the vocals aren't, objectively, my cup of tea, they do suit the music overall, and the music is very good.
Nevertheless, it's probably my least favourite of Bodin's solo albums.

I wonder where Nov and the gang have got to recently. They appear to have forsaken this thread and buggered off somewhere else...
A pity really. cry
Never mind, I'll still fly the flag for Sweden's finest. tongue tongue tongue (If that doesn't bring them running back to complain about my impertinence, nothing will!)
And to celebrate, I'm going to have a 'Stolt' day tomorrow, starting with Wallstreet Voodoo and ending with, well, probably SMPTe.
All Of The Above still has one of my favourite Stolt solos at the end. wink

I'm here wink

I've been off work with a buggered back all week and haven't spent much time on the PC.

I do have to admit that I've been over on the official forum a bit more than usual, spreading the TFK gospel over there and sending a few TFK CDs off to some of their members.

Well, I'll always chip in with something or other if the thread is about to drop off the front page wink

Gotta keep the 'Kings visible during this quiet spell wink

Sorry to hear about your back Nov. I hope you recover soon.
Must admit, I've rather neglected the 'official' forum lately. I find I don't have enough time to 'do the rounds' all the time.
Will have to look in there again soon and catch up with what's new.

(My Stolt day was rather wonderful.) wink

Glad you're enjoying the music Colin!

I wish I could say the same for Agents Of Mercy. After the first listen, I have to agree with most everyone else.. it's pretty much a stinker. There are some great moments, but the vocalist ruins the entire package.
