Sounds great, Nov! I've been waiting for Papa J to announce the 2009 Cal Prog line up. I bet it's going to be a good one. It's going to be on Saturday October 10th this year.

Haven't you heard?

It's:

Karmakanic
Kaipa reunion
The Flower Kings
Spock's Beard (first full gig with Neal back in the band)

grin

Actually, I think I'd finance my own trip over there to see that line-up wink

I was just taking a trip back into this thread to read about when we all (well, some of us) went to see The Flower Kings in London at the end of 2007. What a great night that was smiley

Anyway, separate to that, I found this clip of TFK in the studio recording part of "Love Is The Only Answer":

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=2033781295

Not bad eh?

What a monster Zoltan is on the drums.

That was a great night wasn't it!...one of the best gigs I've been to, those guys blew me away and I assumed that it would be the first of many wonderful TFK gigs...trouble is 18 months later I'm still waiting for the next! sad

...I want a TFK gig! undecided

Don't we all Fraser? embarassed

I think it will be a while yet though undecided

I think they need to re-charge their batteries a bit and get some solo stuff out of their systems before coming back in full TFK glory.

Shame you couldn't make the Nik Kershaw gig. It was fantastic!!

Keep in touch matey wink

OK, I have listened to Agents Of Mercy's album for the first time(The Fading Ghosts of Twilight)

Very nicely structured music and beautifully played.
Not so keen on the voice of Nad Sylvan (I keep thinking of Peter Gabriel huh) however Roine soon saves the day with the stunning "Wait For The Sun" which oozes the quality of The Flower Kings. Thereafter i love every track actually and will certainly be keeping an open mind on the title track especially.
It is important and interesting to note that the album shows off the drumming talents of not only Zoltan (TFK, Karmacanic) but also Jimmy Keegan (Santana, Spock's Beard) and Pat Mastelotto (XTC and King Crimson). Roine shows off his guitar skills in frequent passages and his voice is superb.

This is definitely going to be a grower and i must say that you simply cannot accuse the prolific Roine Stolt of using this album for filler music. I amaze at the sheer volume of decent music he serves up for us. smiley

I would give this initially 8/10 and definitely an essential album for fans of TFK.

I too now have a copy of this album. Played it twice so far. It's definitely different and, I suspect, it will be a 'grower', like much of Roine's output. Got to say I'm not keen on Nad Sylvan's voice either. But he doesn't remind me much of Peter Gabriel. You certainly couldn't get the two mixed up!
The songs are well constructed and, like Colin says, Roine is in fine form, both on vocals and on guitar. There are certain parts that remind me of Tomas Bodin's IAM album, the more theatrical parts that is.
Too early for me to rate it yet, will get back on that one. I will say, however, if anyone is expecting something along the lines of TFK, then, for the most part, they'll be disappointed. It's a different animal, with just a fleeting glimpse of TFK thrown in.
It will take a good few proper listens to appreciate its subtleties, as usual. smiley
