Well, the worst Genesis album is WCD, in my opinion. But TFK leaving you stone cold? There are periods, sometimes a month or more, where I haven't listened to TFK, and then I put on "Flower Power," or any of the other wonderful albums they've blessed us with, and I'm always struck by the beauty and the wonder of their music, so much more than any other band out there today, and there are tons of great bands out there. Like you said, it's all a matter of taste wink

So you've said. Side 2 of W&W is probably Genesis's finest moment (in my book).

In fact, swap "Your Own Special Way" for "Inside and Out" and it would easily be my favourite Genesis album.

love both And Then There Were Three and Duke

What, more than W&W?

Nurse, the screens!!

and only the odd track after that

At least we agree on that.

back to TFK: it may be techinically good (in terms of composition and execution) but to me it never grabbed me emotionally

It's precisely the emotion and passion in their music that I love the most. Of course the compositional skills and playing are exemplary but it's the emotion Roine and the guys pour into their music that often moves me to tears.

I just think you're not ready for them yet. I've heard all this before from people who've written them off without really understanding them and a year later, when they are more open and willing, they give them a proper listen and the penny drops.

So maybe the Invisible Touch comparison is a bit rough

A bit?

When I saw then live (with the esteemed Nedflanders) I had a lot of trouble staying focussed on the gig - and this was only a 90 mins set!)

I reckon you probably weren't really in the mood and ready to dislike them before they'd played a note wink

Quote:
anyway - will make room for those wanting too share their TFK love and appreciation now wink

You stick around Eric as I'm determined to convert you. I'm evangelical about this band and you don't stand a chance grin

Cheers

I transform into a young lad when I listen to TFK, my mind full of magical dreams and wondrous imagination. This is an actual photo of me taken just moments ago. The song I'm listening to is "Church Of Your Heart." It scares the sh*t out of my wife when I do this.

Great pic Dave. I take it you've finally found the elixir of youth then? (Well, all you need is a good dose of TFK's music.)

Apologies in advance if this has been previously posted on this thread - with so many pages I have neither the patience or to lose the will to live by scanning so many posts grin

ROINE STOLT: The Flower Kings frontman will be releasing a new project, entitled Agents of Mercy on March 1st:
On March 1st 2009 Foxtrot Music will release a brand new album "The Fading Ghosts Of Twilight" - by the new project called AGENTS OF MERCY The album will initially be a LTD edition Digipack with 77 minutes of brand new music.

Agents Of Mercy is a project spawned from a "low key" acoustic project that Roine Stolt set out to do in 2008, but after getting singer Nad Sylvan (Unifaun) onboard to do a few "guest vocals" it turned into a full production prog album where Nad got more involved and did most of both lead and backing vocals on the album. Songs got longer and vocal arrangements more elaborated and more symphonic and the common love of late 60's and early 70's prog and artrock is all over this album.

A few favourite drummers tracked drums for the 12 tracks, Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson, XTC, Mr Mister, Stickmen etc ) Zoltan Cs÷rsz (TFK, Karmakanic) and Jimmy Keegan (Santana, Spocks Beard Live ) the eccentric Biggo Zelfries did most of the piano and analogue keyboards and TFK bassist Jonas Reingold add some fretless bass spice too.

A cluster of artful influences ranges from The Beatles, Queen, ELO, (early)Genesis, Supertramp, CSN&Y, Klaatu, The Move, Pink Floyd, XTC, Claude Debussy, (early)Bowie.

Silas Toball did the mysterious artwork for us and the album is mixed by agent Stolt at Cosmic Lodge as usual.
1-The Fading Ghosts Of Twilight
2-Waiting For The Sun
3-The Unwanted Brother
4-Heroes & Beacons
5-Jesus On The Barricades
6-Afternoon Skies
7-A Different Sun
8-Ready To Fly ?
9-People Like Us
10-A Soldiers Tale
11-Bomb Inside Her Heart
12-Mercury & Mercy

Credit where credit's due!

Dave said so much with that short paragraph - from the sincerity and emotion that all us TFK fans can identify with at the start, to the simple but wicked humour of the end...just one of those posts you read and think: ...wish I'd said that!

Indeed!

And don't forget we've got a Stolt/Reingold fusion album appearing at some point as well.

I just hope that TFK can get it together later this year undecided

Most interesting, don't you think, that the hiatus in TFK activity has co-incided with a similar state of affairs for The Phantoms. The parallels are obvious grin
