By the way, does anyone know if Tomas's album is available anywhere other than on his website? I've looked in a few places, but drawn a blank so far. undecided

This is the only site I could find.

Thanks for that Dave.
I was playing some Pain Of Salvation yesterday, and I still think it's a pity Daniel Gildenlow had to leave TFK. His voice is tremendous, one of the best modern singers around, imo. (Of course, Hasse and Roine do a fine job on their own.) smiley

Does anyone have this CD? If so, what's on it? Is it any good?

Been quite a while since I listened to it, remember it being good but not essential. You could get a copy if you like wink

Thanks for replying. After reading the reviews on the link you provided, I guess it's only for completists, of which I am one, but not if the quality isn't up to standard.

I have most of this album, and I find the quality very good actually. Haven't played it for ages, but it's well worth having, Dave. wink

I totally agree re DG's voice but the tragedy is that Roine never let him sing lead vocals which is a waste as he has a much better rock voice than either Roine and Hasse. Totally wasted having him sing backing vocals.

He sings lead on "Fast Lane" on UTF and "A Vampires View" on "Adam and Eve" (amongst others). Two of my least favourite TFK tracks. I've never really got on with those tracks largely coz I don't like the vocals undecided

It's a shame coz the instrumental sections on "Fast Lane" are really nice.

I prefer Roine and Hasse wink

I wouldn't say "wasted" exactly. He does some pretty good screaming on MTFK wink

I guess I'm just not much of a DG or POS fan. I think he got off to a bad start with me when I saw Transatlantic at the warm-up gig for the "Bridge Across Europe" tour in 2001at The Zodiac Club in Oxford. He was meant to play the string intro to the epics on BAF (you know that bits I mean) but totaly cocked it up. On the rest of the tour they used backing tapes for those bits wink

"It's not bad is it?" is a bit like saying: "King Kong's a big bugger, isn't he?"

I think everyone here, and on the moon, knows my feelings on this album, so I'll say no more..... tongue

reacting to the original post (some 3566 posts in the thread ago)

No I don't like TFK - have hear most of their albums - even saw them live and I must say whatever it is they do they leave me stone cold. Sure they are great musicians, and I like their positive attitude but in the end the music is not doing it for me. I am suprised they are held in suc high esteem here - to me there is so much bette rmusic around these days (esp from Sweden I might add). And to relate to Genesis - I like the worst Genesis album (arguably that would be Invisible Touch, although accordng to Rateyourmusic.com WCD and CAS are considered worse) still easily beats the "best" TFK album (Stardust We Are?)_

All a matter of taste I suppose

I guess.

However, if you think 'Invisible Touch' is a better album than 'Stardust We Are' I may need to pm you the number of a good therapist I know wink

'The Man Who Walked With Kings' alone is better than anything on 'Invisible Touch'. That track would grace 'Wind and Wuthering' in my opinion. If you're a fan of Genesis and Steve Hackett, I fail to understand why you wouldn't like that track.

Anyway, where was I............

well I don't particularly rate W&W either - I guess I am weird by only loving half of what Genesis ever did: love Foxtrot and SEBTP. dont much like Lamb, love TotT, dont much like W&W, love both And Then There Were Three and Duke, and only the odd track after that

I mostly listen to Live, Seconds Out and Three (Four) Sides Live

back to TFK: it may be techinically good (in terms of composition and execution) but to me it never grabbed me emotionally

So maybe the Invisible TOuch comparison is a bit rough - as I don't much like that either - but I guess you get the point; it's all about opinions.

When I saw then live (with the esteemed Nedflanders) I had a lot of trouble staying focussed on the gig - and this was only a 90 mins set!)

anyway - will make room for those wanting too share their TFK love and appreciation now wink

cheers

Eric
