By the way, why aren't The Flower Kings one of the biggest bands on the planet? undecided

Maybe in a parallel universe they are wink

Thanks Colin. They're asking too much though. I went ahead and bought Swedish Family on amazon.com for $21. I can't find Circus Brimstone anywhere but on GEMM, but $49 is way too much. Is their only album "Brimstoned In Europe." I thought they had a debut album as well, or is this it?

They've only had the one album, 'Brimstoned In Europe' so far Dave, but maybe they'll do another instrumental tour one day, and release another album.

They're certainly one of the biggest bands in my cd collection. I think they come in at a very respectable third, behind Rush (second) and Steve Hackett (first).
And they're still growing at an alarming rate. wink

All right folks, let's get this thread back where it should be....at the top!

For those who haven't seen this footage, it's of TFK 14 years ago, performing "Humanizzimo" at ProgFest 1994.

Honestly, who among us had even heard of these guys before the 21st century?

Note Jaime Salazar on drums and Michael Stolt on bass. You almost don't miss Jonas or Zoltan..........did I just say that? shocked

This is before any Flower Kings album was released. Only Roine's "The Flower King" had been given to the world for it's complete and utter enjoyment. Imagine, they wouldn't release "Flower Power" for another 5 years!

ENJOY!

I've always liked Jaime's playing. I love Zoltan, but I honestly think Jaime is just as good, even if their styles are a little different
He's rather good with The Tangent as well

Just received Swedish Family "Vintage Prog" in the mail. Will give it a listen later today. Can't wait. There have been wonderful reviews for this album. Tomas Bodin is a friggin' genius.

I paid $21 American, but you can get it for $15 here http://www.lasercd.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=HHCD001 You can even get Roine Stolt's "The Flower King" for only $5, and Karmakanic's second album "Wheel Of Life" is only $8.

I'm on my second listen, and amazingly fell in love with it on my first listen. You'll hear shades of early Kaipa, some Camel and even early Caravan.

Created by Tomas Bodin, Swedish Family are a fictional band (he lists all the fictional players on the cover) with a fictional album history going back to the 1960s.

The real artists are Tomas Bodin (keys), Roine Stolt (guitar and bass), Hasse Bruniusson (drums) and Ulf Wallander (wind instruments).

It's an instrumental album, running almost 1 hour, and it's full of enticing Hammond organ, a superb blend of folk, rock and jazz. It's a surprisingly pleasant album that you don't want to end. They need to make more of these albums with a 70s atmosphere.

Vintage Prog is truly MAGNIFICENT and highly recommended.

I remember reading the details about it when it was first released.
Sounds like another one to add to my wish list!
Cheers! cheesy

Latest from Roine......

Hey Flowerheads

Just a quick hello to tell We're alive. In fact we're alive to the point where we decided to rehearse a bit and to rehearse with two new members of the TFK tribe, 2? , yes that's correct .........most of you are already familiar with Erik Hammarstöm who will play drums for TFK but we've decided to bring in yet one more handyman.

Ola Heden will sing, play keyboards, guitar, percussion (dance) ......well to augment where our little hands and heads are too busy .......or used to be .

Here is a photo with the current line up of TFK.

ola heden: vocal & keyboard,guitar,percussion
hasse fröberg: vocals,guitar

We've been workin on getting the songs from last album into shape and lift them to a more detailed level even live.
I left the rehearsal with a big smile ........you'll figure out the rest.

btw.
go get CARPE DIEM - Live in USA when released (check your dealers) also hurry to get tickets to our upcoming shows.
(yes we hope for a few more USA shows last week of August , but no west coast gigs this time ,sorry.)

Great to know TFK are rehearsing hard. Let's hope this will lead to more brilliant shows that may in the future be considered for release on dvd.
When you consider what this band have released so far, both on cd and dvd, it makes your mouth water and wets your appetite for more of the same.
Nice to see the recent pic incorporating the new members too.

I tried to order this today from GFT but Malcolm said that he hasn't had it in stock for ages.

I also tried to order Blomljud but he said that has sold out and he's awaiting a new batch.

Nov, here's the lowest prices where you can get "Vintage Prog":

This site has it for 7.59532 GBP. Even with shipping added on, this is a steal. They don't tell you the shipping costs until you've ordered the CD. http://www.lasercd.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=HHCD001

This site has it for 11.8993 GBP (includes shipping) http://www.theomegaorder.com/s.nl?sc=16&category=&search=swedish%20family

The only complaint I've heard about the Swedish Family album is the packaging. It's a thin cardboard slipcase (no jewel case) with just the CD inside. At first I thought this was some home-made CD that someone had burned and sold to me, but on reading some reviews, others have said stated their surprise with the packaging as well. From what I can tell, this is the official packaging.

The front of the cardboard case is the actual album photo, with the back detailing the fictitious players and their instruments, along with Swedish song titles with English translations. There are 12 tracks in all. What a joy this is cheesy

P.S. Check out the MOONSAFARI thread for sites selling the new album "Blomljud."
