Ah, you mean the old Kaipa tune. Title track of their second album. Yes, it's a great piece, and I'm really glad you said it's very Focus-y, as I've always thought that the original Kaipa sounded a lot like Focus at times.
Great minds think alike Nov! cheesy

Oops. I'm really embarrassed that I didn't realise it was a Kaipa tune.

It's gorgeous, and here it is:

Update from Roine Stolt
24th January 2007

Flowerkings have cancelled the May 2008 USA tour to concentrate on auditioning and finding a permanent drummer for coming tours and recordings.

(So if you live in Sweden or nearby and think you can drum like no-one else, like prog rock and is generally a fabulous person mail us at flowerkings@foxtrot.se.)

At this moment bandmembers are also finishing various solo work, (Karmakanic-Who's The Boss In The Factory/Tomas Bodin-Cinematograph etc.) and mixing an Official Bootleg multitrack recording from Whittier California 2006 to be released this spring.

Tracks include:

* Paradox Hotel
* Psycedelic Postcard
* Hudson River Jam
* Just This Once
* Bass & Drumsolo
* World Of Adventures
* Silent Sorrow

Furthermore editing/mixing work is in progress, but nothing set in stone for a DVD from the november tour 2007 with guest Pat Mastelotto on drums.

Mainman Roine Stolt declares he's about to form an instrumental "hobby" combo with yet unknown name or cast, stating "I need to get back to PLAYING, I've been entangled in "production" and "scheduling" and anything but music for a long time and every time it seems to be too much about logistics and swaying commitments and every tour or album turn into a monster before you know it. I really wanna go just a couple of nights to rehearse with good friends and play (loud) music, jam and feel the smell of amps and coffee or tea, talk some and play more. I'm thinking of a four piece, where we can utilize all the new technology and just have fun with it, no big plan, no dogma, the people I'm talking with are all very talented and play many instruments and it will be without prestige. I might end up playing bass or synth or guitar I don't know, I just have a bundle of nice themes that could be a good starting point, I feel very confident about it".

And yes, work is about to start compiling material for next FlowerKings album, but that will be a very long process this time, we'll put in 50% more effort into finding the right songs/lyrics and also make sure that whatever we play it is going to be 100% valid and from the heart as well as played with both bones, precision and passion. It may take a year, or two, but we're going to get there to give you all that you love about TFK and prog in general, only better this time.

Last, we intend to be opening this web shop again very soon, so you can by various TFK related or prog items.

RS. Jan 2008.

Wow!

I posted that update from Roine on another prog forum (here: http://www.progressiveears.com) and a load of bile was chucked at the band.

Roine has responded in the same thread with this:

From Roine Stolt Jan 26th 2008.

Howdy,I was being pointed to this board/forum today by XXX to view the "mudfest" of the "Flower Kings(and other) news from Roine" thread ,
I'd like to set the record straight on a few accounts. (bear with me - a long read - if you honor the truth )

ROSFEST 2008:

1# The drummer thing was NOT the main reason we cancelled,it was the prospect of losing more money.,
Another dark cloud was Jonas serious backpains that still is a major thing he need to get treatments for,during Eurotournov 2007 he was barely able to stand up for the 2,5 hours even under heavy medication.

2# We do NOT usually breakeven in Europe ,we LOSE money,every time between 15'000 and 30'000 usd,so we can NOT finance US touring with "profit from Euro Tours" it has to be taken from record sales only.

3# We could not have made "better planning", it was just a fact that we got offered the Rosfest gig and they wanted a firm "yes" sooner, a bit too early to fit in with our plans or scheduling,however we did NOT sign a contract yet and were still in the planning of other shows in USA to make it work,but after the Euro tour it was obvious we could not make it work for USA this time.

4# We did NOT put George and Tom in a financial hell or did not mean to and frankly I think Rosfest stand for itself without TFK ,I'm amazed how some of you first complain about how lousy our records are and then complain about that you won't be able to see us huh?? (musicmasochistzyouare!!)
The fun part is that you now can go online and tell everyone after Rosfest how EVERY other band was 100 times better than TFK could ever wish to be.

5# The truth is that George Roldan HIMSELF mailed me yesterday and personally "apologized" for the way some of you guys handle this,we are perfectly OK with each other and he fully understand the situation,but he feel bad about the utter childish disgrace some of you fans put on.

6# FlowerKings tours in Europe do NOT get us a profit ,ever,not even a breakeven ,every tour have seen between 15'000 and 30'000 usd loss and still we keep going, we do it because we love to play live and to my knowledge we've seldomly disapointed a crowd (even if I personally feel we have done a few bad gigs). So when you fabricate lies or throw dirt it feels a bit unjuste cause I cannot think of many bands that have supported their fans with live playing on such frequent basis while losing money year after year.

FLOWERKINGS BEING b!tchES,@$$holeS OR MAJOR thingyS !! :

WOW, the statements from member "pleasantgreen" is both bold and interesting.
Just about EVERYTHING in your postings are wrong,you really hate us don't you ? Now can you back it up with FACTS.

1# Flower kings did NOT play Progfest 1995, we played 1997 ......however IF you mean 1997 and it is actually FlowerKings you talk about, then
I'd very much like you to be VERY specific about WHAT made you think we were such thingys? No clouds please,just plain fact and truth that can be backed up. Not your "feeling" of what might have happened but what actually DID happen.
In what way did we behave like "thingys",in what way did we mistreat crew or disapoint audience ?

You see, if you are not specific your statement is not valid and becomes nothing more than a rumor or a lie and you no more than a troll, anyone can badmouth a band ,it's easy,but let's hear about the specifics.
It's possible you are right (God forbid) but I highly doubt it as I know the members to be very friendly and nice people (including myself)
When we played Progfest -97 I have the best of memories and not one single issue with crew or band so this seems like completely rubbish to my ears,did you ever talk to me or any of the band ? As I recall it we just relied on the crew and had no problem with it at all,everyone was so nice to us.
btw. Do you have a name ? or is it safer to to be anonymus? Are you perhaps a "less fortunte" progmusician or friends of a less fortunate band that share your disgust for TFK??

2# ProgDay , Have no bad memories of that either,it was all very hot and we all tried our best. At ProgDay98 we might have been a bit shocked to find out that the backline was sparse and there was NO guitaramp for Hasse and the bassamp was a really small combo for a outdoors gig,but no none in the band made a big deal about it and a kind person from the staff did go get another amp and it all went on smoothly and I think the audience did enjoy it ,like it or not . After all we just try to do the gig and always have to rely on the backline and what the promotors provide as a minimum and in this case there was obviously a misunderstanding but all got sorted out and we were not pissed at all. We're not by far divas in that department,compared to many other bands of equal status,contrary to your statement we're one of the nicer bands (and I've met many too ,believe me) .

One would suspect we had NOT been invited a second time IF we had treated the Progday staff and the fans like shit,so please enlighten me with details if you insist we are the thingyheads you say we are .......or is it just Roine ........or all of the band ?
Keyboard stand-in Robert Engstrand was not even a member,but Rob is OK too,very funny guy.
Some people seem like hellbent from the beginning that they just simply "hate" Flowerkings ........like a sport,hate the Swedes,the other camp......

Heck one Italian band called us the "Gay band",the problem for me is that while Michael may have had a colorful shirt with flowers on it, he is not by far Gay,none of us are ,( like if that's something wrong with being Gay anyway.... ) but as the ultimate paradox the same Italian guys were playing without shirts ........(now is that Gay? - as there were mostly guys in the audience maybe they were looking for groupies....LOL. )
Anyway there seemed to be a few "fellow musicians" that just hated us for reasons unknown around that ProgDay but I think it speaks volumes about jealousy and alienation rather than if we were b!tches or not,cause we were not ,ask Peter Renfro the main promotor,wonderful guy.

3# Flowerkings being "unprofessional" and mediocre - Truth be told I've heard a few such rumours that FlowerKings are such @$$holes and treat fans and promotors like shit.........and each time I hear it or read it it just makes me wonder,where do rumours like that come from ??
because it can't be further from the truth,honestly.
Flowerkings is a group of very humble and very co operative persons,very professional,I've never seen anyone in the band raise his voice or say anything nasty to crew,promotors or fans,rather the opposite we are all very friendly and caring,that some of you rightly have pointed out already.

The only known incident EVER where there was some tension was at Nearfest but that's another story and there were never any hard words said just a tension between band and promotors and I think we were justified in our reaction (imho).
I suspect your "hate" is likely to be the unfortunate reaction to what fans or local crew EXPECT from the band rather than what me or the band actually is.
Just imagine you approach Hasse or Jonas or myself while we're heading for a shower after the show or while we try solve a problem with amp or pedals before a show.......then if you don't get "connected" or we just answer a short "yes" or "no" where you expected a nice conversation .......that might lead to a disapointment and you ditch us for eternity. I've had fans dissin' me because they couldn't buy me a beer or I was tired after a 2,5 hour show.........go figure,it's a dangerous world out there,you gotta be friends with everyone,or die a death......obviously .

4# This is a very small community ,this board,this space,It should be ignored perhaps but the fact is if someone goes online and make outright FALSE
accusations about FlowerKings or myself I feel the need to at least defend myself.
You have every right to say anything about how boring or uninteresting our music is,in the end the sales figures shows if you are right , But you cannot
LIE, not come on here or anywhere else and tell people lies about the band or generalize about us being "unprofessional" and things like the following horrendous statement:
:"I can say they treat everyone with contempt including stage crew, promoters, soundmen, fellow musicians, and most importantly their audience.
Wow,that was harsh .....Your real name please and back up your statements with facts if you want them to at all be valid and not only gossip from a troll !!!
.........were you perhaps the feared Schoolyardbully too ??

DRUMMERS ENIGMA :

1# Zoltan is NOT a bad person or "unprofessional" in any way while on tour,he's a sweet guy,it's just that the personal chemistry between certain members aren't the best,it's a bit sad, I personally love Zoltans drumming,for me he's nr 1 , but I need to look out for what is best for the band.
Make snide comments if you will, but remember I have to deal with the reality of it all,mine is NOT just a casual comment on a messageboard.

2# Pat Mastelotto is NOT Zoltan,or not the other way around,they are very different drummers. Pat is generally a wonderful positive and very creative person,an ace when it comes to integrating electronics into his drumming and generally a powerhouse drummer with a great sound. It's been an honor have him playing on the Euro Tour and I'm shure there will be other projects that we'll do in the future,but yes it did cost me a few bucks xtra.
But I'm honored to call him a friend,for life I hope.

......continued.....

3# We are Not Spinal Tap,we're just a bunch of guys trying to get a band working with a reasonable even level of virtuosity (or lack thereof LOL)
We will audition a few guys in the following weeks and I'm confident we'll come up with a drummer that will fit the band and continue the legacy of great drummers,we have a few strong candidates already in a more geographiclly convenient area.

FLOWERKINGS BEING HAS-BEENS:

1# There will always be opinions and any band that has a remote slice of success will most likely get a "mob" telling the rest that the band (TFK) suck fat ass.
Flowerkings have come to that point my friends,we're now officially the band you can trow dirt on ......but also the band that headline the festivals,sell more records,get the good reviews(and bad) ,the Roine=genius statements,win the polls,tour the world,be in magazines .......so welcome you little horde,your time has come to throw dogshit our way and put the stigma on our hands if that get your little bodies excited.
Personally I just wish you (whiners and snobs ) who tell others how unimportant and mediocre we are ,go get a life,learn the art of kindness,tolerance or forgiving or make use of your lives in building up instead of tearing down and instead of telling others what to think about our music, as you are not only making a disgrace of yourselves but also unfair fun of us & all the people who love TFK (and there is a few of them) .
Your biggest problem is that you may confuse a few but cannot make us stop,we're here,like it or not and we're gonna pester your music universe for many years to come and brighten it up for many,many others likewise.

Thanx, and now if you excuse me I'll go back to writing some utterly boring uninspiered and non-challenging light prog,simply a neo sellout,just to fill my vaults so I can afford buy tickets and go overseas soon to insult my US fans and crews in person,that's what I live for . LOL.

Roine Stolt
(one of the nicest butchers known to mankind)
btw. sorryy for any spellllingg error , I'm from the olld worldd........

Good on Roine although it's a shame that the idiots on that forum made him upset enough to have to respond at such length.

It makes depressing reading sad

God Bless Roine for defending himself and the band so articulately (even if his grammer & spelling is as bad as mine laugh)

I too am glad Roine has defended himself against some more mindless cretins who open their mouths and let out the usual uninformed hot air and little else besides.
At least he knows he has true fans, and always tries to do his best for them. That's all that matters really.
Going now to play Tomas Bodin - Sonic Boulevard.
