So Steve! What are resolutions 1 - 7 then if TFK are No 8?

Yeah! That would be interesting to know! He might know him! How funny would that be! Well it's happened before with us hasn't it! laugh

Well, they've played at Rotherham a few times (like Nikki said) and also at The Robin in Bilston (near Wolverhampton), but hey, London isn't too far from The Midlands, especially to go to and see The Flower Kings. If they only play in London again next time, it'd be a shame to miss them for the sake of travelling 100 miles wink

Lesley i'll make sure you get to see them cos they are amazing grin

Well, Christmas was just a big Genesis splurge. Having received, off a very, very generous friend, the Genesis boxed set '76 - '82, I have been thoroughly exploring all the discs.
The sound improvement is amazing, comparing it with the definitive edition remasters, and the dvd live clips and interviews are superb. I do think the hard-to- see shots of the tour programmes are a bit of a waste though.
Anyway, this weekend I expect to be back playing some TFK. But I will have to jiggle that with watching my new David Gilmour dvd, a surprise Xmas present courtesy of my sister. Looks like saturday is fully booked up, in the nicest possible way!

Well, I actually took Friday off work; I've got a few days left over from last year, and I watched my David Gilmour dvd in the afternoon. Superb, it has to be said.
So today, I played TFK - The Sum Of No Evil. And, as usual after a lay off, it sounds better than ever.
Great stuff.
Also, my latest acquisition, the Porcupine Tree dvd, 'Arriving Somewhere' arrived, well, today, so I watched that too. Another fine dvd.
'Twas a great saturday all round! wink

Thanks Nikki (and you, Nov), I'd love to see them whenever or wherever!

I don't consider myself a huge fan of yet, because to be honest, I'm still getting to learn their stuff (that's why I don't post on here very often). I know I like them to a certain degree. I'm getting to know the music and there are certain tracks I love but I get mixed up with which album they're off! I'm at that exciting stage where I'm enjoying learning it all!

One slight criticism though, so far it isn't as diverse as Genesis. Maybe that's because I don't know it well enough but it seems a little 'same-ish?'

Feel free, everyone, to give me a bollocking if you think I deserve it!! lipsrsealed grin Just an opinion!

Once again, thanks to Colin for sending me the music! wink

Yes I agree Lesley it can appear to be samey but definitely with subtleness. There are also some filler tracks, but on the whole The Flower Kings are really excellent.

Keep listening from time to time and you'll learn to love the band smiley

I can definitely hear the Yes influences in there; and Steve Hackett too.

The Flower Kings are a real "slow-burner" band to get into. I was just the same when I first heard "Space Revolver" back in about 2000. You know that they sound great but it's just a case of getting to know the tracks and the albums. I used to make compilation tapes to get used to their stuff and I've only discovered in the last year or so (literally) that I've over-looked fantastic tracks on their albums coz they didn't make it onto the tapes or (more recently) my mp3 compilation CDs.

Depends what you've heard. Maybe the latest album is a little "samey" all the way through (in that it's mostly out and out "prog") but knowing all 10 of their studio albums pretty well now, I'd say they were one of the most diverse groups I know. Everything from classical to pop to jazz to blues to avant garde to ambient to new-age to prog to rock to metal and back again is covered on their albums. In the case of "Unfold The Future" all these elements are on just that one album.

I'd say that The Flower Kings were actually more diverse than Genesis. Far more in fact wink

Let's just see what you think when you've got all their albums wink

Thanks for that Nov. Col sent me Flower Power, Stardust We Are and Sum of No Evil. I know what you mean about overlooking tracks. It took me a while to get to like some of Genesis in the 70s. It seems with me, the longer it takes to get into something, the more you love it once you're into it. I remember once thinking that my least favourite Gen album was Selling England, but I grew to love it as much as all the others (up to ATTW3 /Duke-ish!)
Btw, I'm an early to mid era Genesis fan!
