Alright you lot! cheesy

Here it is then! First thoughts on Back In The World Of Adventures and Retropolis! grin

OMG! Awesome!!! grin
But you had an idea i was going to say that eh!

Playing Adventures to death!
Knew World Of Adventures from one of Nov's compilations, but nothing else off it.
Well i love it all!
Being a classical guitar player as a teenager, not so hot now, i loved Kaleidoscope!
Go West Judas is superb, play it loud, oh yes i think so!!
Love the whole thing, and just when i was muttering to myself about how bloody fantastic TFK are .......... the last track, Big Puzzle came on............
Well if i wasn't blown away already, which i was, this just knocked me for six! This track is just one of the most wonderful tracks i've heard in years by anyone. Have played it loads.
You know when a track just seems to fit your situation somehow, and the music is awesome and the lyrics are great and it all just seems perfect?
Thats this track for me. I can't tell you how fantastic i think it is, oh i just did! grin

Retropolis is just brilliant too, only knew the title track courtesy of Nov, but early faves are The Melting Pot and The Road Back Home. But to be honest have been so overwhelmed by Adventures i've only played it about 10 times or so, but this will be rectified soon!

I LOVE THIS BAND!!!!! kiss
See Carl, i did get some treatment for my emoticon excess condition! wink laugh

Nikki

This is all music to my ears smiley

I'll respond in more depth to your lengthy (and excellent) pm when I get a spare half hour.

Suffice to say that I'm really chuffed you're enjoying this amazing band so much. There must be many more thousands of people out there just like us who would enjoy them as much if only they were made aware.

In fact, I'm hoping to get Rosie on board (see earlier posts). I'm not sure at the moment if she's more into young Norwegian sailors or older Swedish musicians ( grin) but I'm gonna send off a compilation CD to her and hope it has the same effect on her as they did on you.

Rosie - this is a test.......

haha, i really like what this thread has turned into laugh

but I have to dissapoint you, i'm not really a sailor, though I enjoy doing it in my sparetime. In the navy I work as a firefighter on a naval base (the largest of all northern Europe, actually)..

I agree with you on BITWOA nikki, surely one of my favorites too. It was one of my first albums too, and maybe the one that tipped the scale over from being an admirer to a worshipper of tfk. Just too bad Jonas wasn't a member yet. He is probably my favorite bass-player these days. And retropolis will definitely grow on you. I remember almost disliking it at first. I didn't really give it time or attention, but I love it now.

LOL grin

You got in before me with this Rosie.

Like the girls are going to be disappointed that you're a fire-fighter in the Navy Didrik, and not just in the Navy scrubbing decks and stuff grin

Space Revolver = superb symphonic prog

I particularly like "Rumble Fish Twist" and the closing instrumental segments of "I Am The Sun - Part 2.

You are a very wise person.

I've just made Rosie's introduction CD and included (of course) "I Am The Sun - Part 2" which is probably my favourite single piece of music since 1977.

Rosie - you should get this early next week wink

News from Roine on the new Flower Kings compilation CD he's put together.

Looks like an essential purchase for you TFK virgins wink

The double CD album will be released on June 26th in USA and probably around that date in Europe too. The title of the album is "Road Back Home" and it contain 27 songs, spanning from 1995 to 2006. It focus on the more melodic and groovy or shorter tracks, means less fusion and more melody and moody tracks. "My Cosmic Lover" on Myspace is not the final mix, more like a different take.

All songs are transferred carefully to 24 bit digital, remixed, quite a few of them have different solos and some added backingvocals and there's even a totally unreleased track, plus the full version of our take on Genesis classic "Cinema Show". There will be a 20 page booklet that have archive photos, comments on each song, recording data and anekdotes by yours truely.

All remixed, re-arranged, remastered and, I might add, with quite a nice result on most and even a stunning sonic result on a few. Prepare with a good set of headphones and your favourite tea. (This one might even appeal to your wife or mother in law or the guys at work)

DISC ONE (77:49)
1. Cosmic Lover
2. A Kings Prayer
3. Stupid Girl
4. Cosmic Circus
5. Babylon
6. Paradox Hotel
7. World Without A Heart
8. Church Of Your Heart
9. Vox Humana
10. What If God Is Alone
11. Starlight Man
12. Grand Old World
13. The Road Back Home
14. Cinema Show

DISC TWO (75:59)
1. Ghost Of The Red Cloud
2. Painter
3. I Am The Sun (p2)
4. Different People
5. Little Deceiver * unreleased track from Rainmaker sessions
6. Chickenfarmer Song
7. The Rhythm Of The Sea
8. Touch My Heaven
9. Life Will Kill You
10. Monkey Business
11. Compassion
12. The Flower King
13. Stardust We Are (end section)

Enjoy
Roine

wow. can't wait to get "the road back home". I think it will be a favorite, so much music, and a lot of great song choices. It is nice to have an approach that is slightly more commercial than the other albums, i'll think i'll be able to slowly convert some friends or relatives. Souns like a good one for my father, for example, he is a bit into progressive music. Can't wait.

and about the firefighter bit, i kinda knew i had it coming wink

bought hydrophonia the other day, anyone who likes this? (i know you do nov!) It really has some amazing melodies and leads, like on the opening and ending tracks, shipbuilding, lobsterland groove and the beautiful oceanna baby dolphin. You should get it if you don't have it allready. Roine is a god. I had a nightmare that he died tonight. I think it says quite a lot about my obsession with this band...

Indeed, Hydrophonia is a wonderful album! My favourites tracks are, in no particular order, 'Cosmic Lodge', 'Shipbuilding', 'Hydrophonia', 'Bizarre SeaHorse Sex Attack', 'Lobsterland Groove'...oh, I may as well just say the whole album!
It's a little different to TFK, but it does show off Roine's wonderful guitar technique, and his great ability to craft memorable instrumentals. smiley

A man after my own heart! 'RumbleFish Twist' is one of my favourite FK instrumentals. Sheer brilliance!
And 'I Am The Sun', both parts in fact, is my other fave off the album.
I also love 'Chickenfarmer's Song' as well. wink
