Interesting debate. smiley

I'm mainly a neo or crossover fan Paloma (as you know cheesy) but The Flower Kings offer the Symphonic appeal. Gotta say that it really does take time to sink in. Also I will say that after listening to Paradox Hotel I wasn't impressed and tended to ignore these threads. Now though, I have seen the light. They are superb especially Flower Power.

So you see COT, you can love all the prog rock genres. rolleyes

Well, lemme see if I can explain my thinking when originally posting my debatable opinion on the PT versus TFK thing.

What I love about TFK are the instrumental, symphonic and ethereal moments, and same goes for PT. TFK have, for me anyway, a more approachable sound than PT, although I very much like PT's early stuff, and not so much their newer stuff.

Paradox Hotel has a more harder edged sound than most any of their other albums, which is why I said that it would be the best choice for someone who is into PT and Riverside, guessing that Paloma likes the heavier sounding music more than the symphonic, as do apparently most newer PT fans.

I certainly didn't mean to convey that anyone liking PT would not like TFK. The problem most newbies to TFK seem to voice is Roine and Hasse's vocals. They definitely take a bit of time to get used to. I get beyond that, though, by my admiration for the substance of their lyrics; the positive attitude and cries for peace, love and understanding.

Steve Wilson's vocals are great, but his lyrics tend to be a tad negative. If he could show a little more compassion and love for life in his songs, plus a little bit less of a metal edge, then PT would be right up there with TFK for me.

New album is starting to hit the spot now though it has taken a while.

The new album has taken quite a while with me as well so don't worry about that. Of course I really like it but it's not hitting the spot like some of their other albums. I can't quite put my finger on what it is coz it all actually sounds fantastic but I'm not really getting any shiver-up-the-spine moments. The closest it gets is the last track.

Looking forward to the the gig though I haven't got my ticket yet, shocked will I get in on the night Nov or do you think it will sell out?

I would love to be able to say "get your ticket quick coz it will definitely sell out" but this venue holds 800 and is the biggest they've ever played in London. So, I don't think it will sell out but I'm also not sure if they actually will sell tickets on the night or not.

Check with the venue Gooner because you really don't want to risk missing this concert. They are a very special band.

If you like bands such as PFM, Camel and Neal Morse (plus Genesis of course), I could tailor a TFK compilation for you that would blow your socks right off wink

Are you coming over to the Charterhouse gigs? If not, send me a pm with your address and I'll send you a TFK compilation wink

Cheers

OK guys, I've just made a TFK compilation CD for Jo of purely instrumental music and it is completely fab (if I say so myself). Of course, technically speaking, there are a couple of Roine Stolt solo pieces in there but they are gorgeous and fit in perfectly.

Get a load of this:

1) Retropolis (11:08)
2) The Pilgrim’s Inn (9:20)
3) Lobsterland Groove (6:19)
4) Days Gone By (1:14)
5) Flora Majora (6:49)
6) Poor Mr Rain’s Ordinary Guitar (2:44)
7) Theme For A Hero (8:32)
8) Babylon (2:34)
9) Atomic Prince / Kaleidoscope (7:49)
10) Red Alert (1:07)
11) Shipbuilding (5:51)
12) Pioneers Of Aviation (7:43)
13) If 28 (2:15)
14) The Blade Of Cain (5:03)

I'll get it off in the post in the next couple of days Jo but I want to listen to it myself first wink
