As for Flower Kings gigs up north, well, I am sure they will do a few, given time and money. I think Nov has hit it on the head. The usually make a loss when touring, and they do have families to consider as well.
Still, I am sure they have fans up here as well.
One day..... cheesy

Yeah, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on why they're only doing one UK show this tour cry when they played Wolverhampton, Rotherham and London last year huh
What's that about then?
Would have thought they'd want to step things up a little over here, or maybe they just don't think they have the following in the UK?

Meanwhile of the 7 gigs i have lined up for November, guess which one i'm looking forward to most grin

OK, this is getting officially scary shocked

Can we interest you in some Flower Kings Pamella?

How do you like the sound of a cross between early 70s Yes, mid-70s Genesis, late 60s Beatles, Steely Dan, a dash of Frank Zappa and some Swedish wackyness thrown in for good measure.

If so, pm me and I'll send you a compilation wink

OK I officially like One More Time. It's great in an early 70s Yes Heart of the Sunrise sort of way. Very Very early YES.

Seems to be lacking the punch and Directness of Paradox, which I find pretty accessible even a bit commerical.

You have got to love the mellotron on this track though

I can only presume it's economics and logistics. Bare in mind that these are all (I think) family men taking 2 weeks out to play music that more than likely makes a loss from ventures such as this.

Yeah, i guess you're right. It's so wrong though, to think that they might make a loss!

Also, the 2 non-London gigs they played last year were a prog festival and an awards night where, I presume, they didn't have to shoulder so much of the financial burden.

Very true Nov, didn't think about that when i posted.

Is this still the TFK adoration portal?

After receiving BITWOA in the mail this morning, and listening to it while relaxing on the sofa, I can report with absolute delight that this is quite a different TFK gem, in that Jaime Salazar, not Zoltan, is on drums, and Michael Stolt, not Jonas, is on bass, plus no Hasse Froberg.........period, only Roine on vocals.

The sound, considering this was recorded in 1995, is quite remarkable, and will be on my CD player for some time to come. My only regret is that I didn't buy it as a special double-CD pak with Retropolis.

As a bit of trivia - Roine did the painting on the cover. Does this guy have no end to his talents? Also, note the trident has a peace sign and cross, which also appears on the front grill of the VW bus on TSONE, but with more of a TFK and peace symbol instead of the cross and peace symbol look to it

I think If I have a problem with tsone it's that it actually IS a Yes album not a Flower Kings album. Heck I thought in the last track I could actually hear Jon Anderson.

No bad thing I suppose but maybe the album is a little too retro.

My humble of course.

The cover of Retropolis, although not painted by Roine, has many similarites to BITWOA.
By the way, Roine also painted the cover of the first Kaipa album, back in 1975! And he did a design for their second album, though it wasn't used.
Every track on BITWOA is great, to my ears, but special mentions must go to: the title track, Big Puzzle, Atomic Prince/Kaleidoscope and Theme For A Hero. All amazingly catchy and melodic.
As you say, Hasse doesn't appear on this album, yet, on Roine's previous solo album, The Flower King, Hasse guests on a couple of tracks, whereas Tomas Bodin is missing, Roine playing all the keyboard parts himself.
So no, there is no end to the man's talents.
Pity you didn't buy the twin pack though. The cardboard slipcase that houses BITWOA and Retropolis is superb. wink

What brings you to these parts Pamella? Are you already a TFK fan, just inquisitive about them, or do you scour all the threads for mention of boy bands?

wink

Anyhow does the fact I am blonde provide an excuse?....... wink

You mean to say you don't already have it Colin? wink

Well, if you haven't got Retropolis either, then get the double pack, which has both albums, packaged in a smart cardboard slipcase, and for the price of a single album too! Well worth it, I can tell you! smiley
