A few weeks ago, Nov dug up Gooner and my first posts in the TFK thread that we'd done on the old official forum and it was pretty funny reading them again!

Speaking of Gooner...........where are you mate?

The Flower Kings. hmm. it's been a long long time hasn't it?

I've been a bit distracted by other bands but it's nice to come back. TKF have a sound and a feel which is familiar safe and well loved. I suppose it's like listening to an orchestra playing mozart symphonies: same instruments, same techniques, different effects.

I'll come back but for me the word 'lovely' is what i am hearing. Melodic, harmonic and full. Nov will no doubt be in his element.

Great to "see" you here again Steve. I enjoy your comments. They are reasoned and calm and add a different perspective.

Regarding the new album, I'm still getting used to it even after 9 or 10 plays. I don't think it's going to be in my top 3 but it does all sound great.

This thread is starting to buzz again right now.....and no wonder. The Sum OF No Evil is truelly incredible. I have played it around 10 times now and it's improving with every play.
But today I decided to take the train into work and because I don't have the new album on my Ipod yet, I decided upon Flower Power. MY God this album (CD1 especially) is just awesome to the extreme.
IT's no wonder Roine Stolt and the boys compare the two albums. They are both CLASSICS.

Not like me to get over excited about The Flower Kings, but this time (and with a lot of perserverance on my part) I cannot help be excited. The melody, the complexity, the guitar, the percussion and the incredible keys are all sublime. But special mention must go to the vocals which are tremendous. Highly underrated I suspect.

As an example take Shadowland / The Final Deal (two tracks really). I think this track on Flower Power has ecverything I could wish for in a symphonic prog composition. It's rapidly turning out to be my favourite track of all.

Isn't it a shame that the majority of so-called 'prog' rockers couldn't sit through an epic if their life depended on it?

I know way too many people who would much rather listen to a 2-1/2 minute ditty, with chorus repeated 3 or 4 times in that 2-1/2 minute period, than to sit , relax and become one with the embodiment of a composition that can actually make their day, if they would just give it a chance.

That is why most classic prog fans won't even give TFK a minute of their time. They're hopelessly stuck in the past, and aren't willing to see the door that is wide open for them, beckoning them to enter and discover the future of progressive rock.

I'm just so elated that this band and others have such a strong will to stick with it and not take the easy road to bubble gum land. A day without epics is a day without sunshine cool

Very eloquently put Sir! With very effective use of symbolism too! smiley

Of course, you're right, 100%.

Well, they're ok I suppose; better than Westlife, but not quite up to Take That's magnificence. Now there's a band! rolleyes

Funnily enough, though boy bands are definitely not my thing, if I really had to go and see one, I would choose Take That, simply because, since they reformed, they tend to have more fun, and don't take themselves quite so seriously.
They are a little older than the others, and a bit more mature - even Mark Owen, who I used to hate! smiley

...and now back to TFK! wink

What brings you to these parts Pamella? Are you already a TFK fan, just inquisitive about them, or do you scour all the threads for mention of boy bands?

Maybe she dreams of an exotic double bill one day, Nov:
For one night only,
The Flower Kings & Take That,
Together, live on stage at Brighton pier.
Tickets 15 from the box office
Taxi 2000 return from anywhere in the country
Fish and Chips thrown in for free.
Once in a lifetime offer - don't miss it!

By the way, played something loosely connected to TFK today, well, it involved Roine Stolt anyhow:

Kaipa - Solo

Their third album, from 1978.
A little different, but still very impressive. smiley

Er ....... boy bands ..........that was wierd ........ so The Flower Kings then .......... anyone remember them wink laugh

Yeah, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on why they're only doing one UK show this tour cry when they played Wolverhampton, Rotherham and London last year huh
What's that about then?
Would have thought they'd want to step things up a little over here, or maybe they just don't think they have the following in the UK?

Meanwhile of the 7 gigs i have lined up for November, guess which one i'm looking forward to most grin

I thought we'd moved on to true talent like Westlife and Boyzone.

I can only presume it's economics and logistics. Bare in mind that these are all (I think) family men taking 2 weeks out to play music that more than likely makes a loss from ventures such as this.

Also, the 2 non-London gigs they played last year were a prog festival and an awards night where, I presume, they didn't have to shoulder so much of the financial burden.

I mean, it's a commitment for me and my family when I disappear for one night to play with The Phantoms but at least I make a little money out of it.

That said, I do think it's a shame they couldn't fit in another concert up North somewhere for Carl, Steve and Niall (at least). I know that they were trying to add another date. If they only do one in London, they should make it on a Saturday so that fans can travel to it.

Who else are you seeing Nikki?

I guess if you add in December, you'd have to say that The Phantoms were at the top of the list grin

I'm seeing "Show of Hands" on Saturday (if I can walk!) and Richard Thompson next Thursday.

And I'm still sitting here waiting patiently for the new album to arrive. Heard via a work colleague earlier that our local postal service should resume tomorrow, apparently.
Give them six or seven months to clear the backlog and I may get the new (or by then old) album. undecided cheesy
