Ok I've seen this thread and not bothered to take much notice thus far.
I'd not heard any of this band's material and knew nothing about them.
I have , however , just listened to lots of song snippets on iTunes and I'm immediately hooked !!

So , before I download everything they've recorded and incur the wrath of Mrs Resonator , could someone please advise me where to start , ie , what do you think would be a good album to start me off.

How could I have missed this lot eh ? huh

This is great news resonator and I'm glad you've been "hooked in" to this thread (so to speak).

You need to be warned that you could be in for an expensive few months. Nikki only got into them in January and she's since bought every single album and DVD and they are now her 3rd favourite all-time group (ousting Floyd, Yes, etc, etc).

So, where to start? I think you should get the recent compilation that the band put out (which includes some of their more accessible tracks) and also the new album, which is nothing short of sensational but needs a bit more "work" to get into. So that would be:

The Road Back Home (double CD compilation)

The Sum Of No Evil (new album - clips on their Myspace site here: www.myspace.com/cosmiclodge )

The Myspace site also lists their tour-dates for November and I would urge you to try and see them if you can as they are sensational live. Where in the world are you?

Here's a clip of them playing one of their more rocky (rather than proggy) songs: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=QjFV-r_EbAI

And here's a clip (not such good quality) of them playing a track from the new album at a prog festival a few weeks ago: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=89zxwz372f4

Welcome aboard wink

Nov has you on the right track. I want to take the opportunity to welcome you to the board and also mention that the DVD "Meet The Flower Kings" is a must-have. It's 2 discs and something like 3+ hours long. You'll never want to shut it off. It was filmed in a very original way, and the sound is nothing short of incredible.

My wife, 59 yrs old and a Hammond organ buff, is hooked on TFK. They are her favorite current band. These guys are some truly blessed individuals and their talent seems endless.

Happy listening cool smiley wink

Yes, it sure makes life a lot more pleasant when your better half can share in the things in life that are important to you.

Yeah. They're not my cuppa tea. The vocals remind me a lot of Morrissey whom I can't stand http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4N48OEDnseI. The music is okay, but too repetitious.

I too would like to welcome you to this little thread, Resonator. It's always nice to 'see' another 'face' here.
I was going to start recommending, but I noticed Nov (as usual) has nipped in sharpish, a bit like a piranha after its prey, and done the deed for me.
I agree totally with his recommendations, and then, if you wish to explore further, I would simply say start at the beginning, with their first album, 'Back In The World Of Adventures' and work your way forward from there.
With this band, you really can't go wrong! Not one duff album amongst their output. And they're not finished yet! grin

Best wishes,
Carl.

The Sum Of No Evil arrived today and I can confirm that it's a MASSIVE album.
Only played it once, but this time the songs have immediately made a great impression on me.

More thoughts later, but I love the video footage on the bonus disc. I wish MMEB would do this documentary style video sad

Well done The Flower Kings. A true gem, I'd say, and that's only after 1 play!!!

This is the most active thread in this forum resonator. We've worked hard over the last couple of years to keep The Flower Kings very visible here (and on the official forum) and more and more people seem to get drawn in (such as yourself) which is great.

Are you gonna go for the albums I suggested (to start with).

Which country are you in?
