Well, let me say one thing, Didrik. If TFK, Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, Neal Morse, or any one of the few great prog acts out there today were to become 'popular' with the young crowd, it would probably be the current fan base that suffers.

1. The bands would have to cater to the under 25 crowd by writing 2-1/2 minute dittys.
2. I have no doubt that any of today's prog greats could make it into the top 10 if they did start getting airplay.
3. We would start seeing these bands' videos on VH-1, replayed every half hour.
4. Every time you'd turn on the radio, you'd hear the bands' most popular song, also replayed every half hour, which, after awhile will make you want to scratch your eyeballs out, pour gasoline down your throat and light a match.
5. Your favorite prog band's name would be synonymous with 'bubblegum,' because that's all they'd be allowed to play on the radio, on their records and live in concert, as the younger crowd are very fidgety and cannot sit still for a 30-minute epic.
6. Ticket prices to see TFK at a 30,000+ seat arena would shoot through the roof, and for $300 you would get a seat in the nosebleed section, while some snotty nosed pimply faced geek has won your 10th row seat in a radio contest because he was the 53rd caller. Oh yeah, and he also has never even heard of TFK.

COMMENT SECTION cool
I rather like the fact that I can listen to my favorite prog bands whenever I want to, and that they're an alternative to what's on the radio and on T.V.

Kudos to you, Didrik, for having good taste in music, for being able to appreciate all the nuances that a band like The Flower Kings puts in their songs, and most of all for understanding that to experience a 30-minute epic requires listening to every single note for the entire 30 minutes, without interruption by your best friend who is bored with it all and would rather be outside riding his skateboard.

Finally! rolleyes

I managed to watch Disc 2 of Meet The Flower Kings!
Well, it was worth the wait! OMG!!! WOW!!
Humanizzimo, stunningly brilliant!
Just amazing! I think Silent Inferno must be one of my fave TFK tracks! So powerful, just love it to bits.
I cried at the closing section of Stardust! rolleyes
God i am truly pathetic at times! Such a girl! wink
I thought it was breathtaking, really knocked me for six i tell you.
Now then, we come to the Daniel Gildenlow situation! How talented is this guy! I just love it when he and Hasse sing together, and when Roine sings too it's almost too much for me to cope with!!
Absolutely gorgeous vocals.

I also get the feeling that Bruniusson is slightly bonkers in a fab sort of way! Do you know what i mean!? I'm sure he could go in our garage, pick up a whole load of objects and get some sort of excellent sound out of them, and probably make a CD out of it! Elvin Garage Music or something!
Just brilliantly mad!

Afterwards i watched Disc 1, and then Disc 2 again!
Plus played Flower Power later too! grin
This was all fuelled by a massive ironing mountain ...... see Steph i gave in eventually!
So all in all, a fab TFK day!
Speaking of the garage ........ the kids ........ forgot to let them out! rolleyes Well how else would i get near the DVD player? wink

Nikki XX kiss

P.S. You lot neglected to tell me that the boys get their shirts off in the South America footage! shocked grin

Nikki

Here's your first EVER TFK post........

Quote:
Ok Nov!
You've finally got to me!
I gave in and had to find out more about this band!
Realised i had a track on some freebie from Classic Rock that i never got round to playing,
so dug it out! It's Hit Me With A Hit.............................. and the verdict is...............
Bloody great!
But how representative is this particular track of their stuff?
Have checked out the various links etc that you and others have put on here, and will
have to investigate further!
What would you guys recommend as a first purchase?
This is going to end in another obsession, i can feel it!

grin

Brilliant!!!
Well i was right about the obsession thing!
I remember that!
You said something like ' You make it sound like i've been stalking you like some TFK stalker, oh hang on' or something like that!
Amazing what a few months, well seven to be precise, can do isn't it!
Thanks guys, once again, i don't think i'll ever be able to thank you enough for getting me into this phenomenal band!
Nov, it's only now i have all their albums that i can fully appreciate what a great couple of CD's you did for me and the thought that went into them kiss

The vocals are such a plus point for TFK - with or without Daniel.

I vaguely recall warning you about Bruniusson too, I think. He has that look in his eye a lot of the time. A tremendous, oddball talent.

And I love that line you used there, it could be the name of your first album - Elvin Garage Music.

Brilliant! grin
