I have the new Anathema album and love the way they have re-constructed the classic songs to reflect the orchestral/acoustic setting

Hi there

Must admit that I was impressed by Anathema at High Voltage so I will be investigating their back catalogue at some point.

Great to hear. Always nice to have something to explore especially when they are a local band! grin

And then, of course, there's the new album from:

Kate Bush - 50 Words For Snow

To be released on November 21st. Of 2011, I might add smiley

This is from the e-mail I got (and the Kate Bush website):

“50 Words For Snow” will feature seven brand new tracks set against a background of falling snow. The total running time is 65 minutes and the track listing is:

SNOWFLAKE
LAKE TAHOE
MISTY
WILDMAN
SNOWED IN AT WHEELER STREET
50 WORDS FOR SNOW
AMONG ANGELS

The site is here:

And since I've included Kate Bush, I may as well include:

Thomas Dolby - A Map Of The Floating City

.... which is the first Dolby album for about 20 years.

Here's some more info:

Dolby's site is here:

I rather liked some of the earlier albums, especially The Flat Earth.

As I understand it, Dolby released an EP a little while back called "Oceanea". The music on that is one of the three parts of the "A Map of the Floating City" CD. The other two parts are "Urbanoia" and "Amerikana".

To make matters a little more complicated, Dolby decided to release a "transmedia" video game as well, called "The Floating City". The idea was, I believe, that many people nowadays don't buy CD's - they play games, though, and might like the music that a game features. You couldn't, however, just pop off to WH Smith to get your copy; effectively, the game was a publicity stunt for the album, and you played online:

All this, I must admit, completely passed me by at the time. And all I'm really interested in is the new CD.

Alas, I'm dreadfully old-fashioned... laugh

Of interest:

25 Yard Screamer - Until All Are One (October 24th)

This band is worth keeping an eye on. A bit like early Rush, perhaps. Their earlier album, Cassandra, was a bit hit and miss, in my opinion.

Jon Anderson - Open (October 25th)

Open is "a twenty minute plus" track which will be released for download only. I know nothing else about it. Sorry!

Arena - The Seventh Degree Of Separation (November 28)

The first new Arena album for six years (when the rather excellent Pepper's Ghost was released). It'll be interesting to see what changes time has wrought...

That's all for now!

(Edit - Had the name of the 25 Yard Screamer album wrong. It's Until All Are One, Not "Until We Are One".)

I think that 25 Yard Screamer is a great name for a band. smiley But I'm not overly keen on Rush pre-2112. undecided

Think "Jacob's Ladder" (from Hemispheres), make it twice as long, and eliminate the keyboards. That'll give you an idea.

These guys are really good, but not quite there yet, I feel.

Meanwhile...

Echolyn may or may not release their new album this year. The tracklisting, however, mentions four "sides", so this may be a double CD. It'll be nice to hear these guys again; they've given us some really great stuff in the past. Echolyn have always been one of the very best US prog bands. It's sad they're not better known:

In my Rush collection, Jacob's Ladder is on Permanent Waves. wink That said, it is one of my favourite Rush tracks and the keyboards are an essential part of the fabric of the track IMHO.

I had this information for three weeks (or so)... wink

Not sure, if everyone have heard about the brand new LANDMARQ album. Their 'Entertaing Angels' will see the daylight in December 2011 - around Christmas time. cool
