The new Poor Genetic Material album "A Day In June" will be released on 31 May. The album is based on James Joyce's Ulysses and brings together PGM singer Phil Griffiths and his father Martin (ex Beggars Opera) as lead singers on one album.

HöSTSONATEN "The rime of the ancient mariner: Alive in Theatre" DVD + CD Out June 15!

User Image

The great dream of Fabio Zuffanti from the composition of the music on Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem "The rime of the mariner ancoent" was to transpose the whole opera in a theatrical version giving people a version that could visualize the magic words and the music of the poem. Thanks to the meeting with genoese director Susanna Tagliapietra, author of the great achievements in the field of the musical with his versions of "Aida" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", the dream has become reality. Susanna has helped to bring alive the musical world of Zuffanti creating a multimedia work and reproducing on stage the supernatural universe of Coleridge with multimedia elements, dance and stage actions. The first of the show was held last December 16, 2012 in the prestigious Teatro Verdi in Genoa getting a great success. From evening is taken this double album containing a DVD with the shooting of the show (and a funny backstage) and a CD with the audio recording of the evening. Compared to the studio version, published on CD last year, the theatrical version contains many new arrangements and a completely new piece ("Interlude").

As with anything released by Andy Tillison, it's gonna be a grower. I'm listening with an open mind. I have always considered Andy to be a genius; right up there with Roine Stolt and Neal Morse, when it comes to songwriting. Different strokes, eh? I look for complexity when it comes to music. Of course, I love the simple ditty as much as the next person, but in my prog it's complexity, and Andy dishes it out by the shovel-load every time smiley

News today that Steven Wilson will be working on the classic Yes albums including 5.1 surround/dve/blu ray of CTTE. Also going to be working on XTC catalogue as well.

I'd certainly be interested in a 5.1 version of Close to the Edge.

To be frank, though, some of the other things mentioned in the article, such as The Road to Red, strike me as slightly redundant.

Clepsydra are reunited. After some years of abscence from the scene, Swiss neoprogsters are presently working on new material. The band intends to make a concert tour for next year as well. wink

I honestly could not believe the final review (the one who gave the album a "3" -- Basil Francis). Not only was it pretentious in that it's written as if it's from the viewpoint of a fictional "average Joe listener", but the reviewer's ignorant and dismissive attitude was just incredibly annoying.

The allegation that Tillison is being "ungrateful" because his lyrics are bemoaning the daily grind really shows the reviewer's age, I think. As someone who has spent several years in the working world, and with how western society seems to idolize work -- living to work instead of working to live -- Andy's lyrics work just fine from my point of view. There is a major imbalance in how such a large chunk of our lives is spent toiling away at unfulfilling jobs just to live in relative comfort. It's not exactly uplifting lyrical material, but I can appreciate it.

Anyway, that reviewer's snarky approach just struck me as coming from a young know-it-all. I may be completely wrong though. wink

Listening to the album now. So far I am pleasantly surprised.
