A little while back, I gave a nod to Inner Ear Brigade's album Rainbro, even though I had to admit that mentioning anything obscure on this thread was a bit against my principles.

I'm glad I did, though - it's still one of my favourite albums of the year (and it's been a very good year indeed).

So I'll take a chance and mention another one. It's by a band called House of Not, and the album is called On The Madness Of Crowds:

User Image

Not much of a cover, I dare say, but don't be fooled - the music here is pretty awesome. It's a bit like Pink Floyd at the time of the Wall, but far more diverse. For example, there's a track on here which reminds me of Rick Davies of Supertramp. And then there's stuff that's more reminiscent of the US prog style of, say, Spock's Beard.

All that's fine, but the bottom line is that all of this works just fine on its own. In fact, in works better than I would have thought possible - this easily transcends any ready comparisons that might be made to earlier prog stars, and becomes something very individual and powerful. Moreover, it's excellently recorded and produced with obvious sophistication. In short, it just bowled me over.

I must admit I know next to nothing about these guys, except that this seems to be the third part of a longer series, all related to "The Walkabout of A. Nexter Niode". If that sounds a little awkward, simply ignore it and just listen to the album. At present, it's on Progstreaming:

http://www.progstreaming.com/_wb/pages/play-album.php?activeAlbum=00159%20-%20House%20Of%20Not%20-%20On%20The%20Madness%20Of%20Crowds%20%28The%20Walkabout%20Pt%203%29

Here's the band's site:

If you have not heard their debut release yet - give a try. Still the most interesting stuff (influenced by PF, LZ and David Bowie, to name only a few)

Well, I've heard the third album, On The Madness Of Crowds (obviously!), but not yet the first two. I'll track them down.

EDIT: Well, all three albums can be heard (in full) on the band's website. I've listened to the debut one, and I must say, I find the third album - On The Madness Of Crowds - far better... smiley

Marillion have posted a "low quality" version of what is presumably the longest track from Sounds That Can't Be Made - called Gaza - on YouTube

Strap yourself in, take a deep breath, and have a listen:

NEW PRE-ORDERS
www.progrock.co.uk

TWELFTH NIGHT - Live And Let Live - the definitive edition (2 CD) - GBP 11.99 (released 01/10/2012)
THE classic Twelfth Night release! The final gig with Geoff Mann in its entirety! Recorded over 2 nights at London's Marquee Club, and originally released in a reduced form on vinyl, this is the first time that the whole concert has been released. Twelfth Night performed 15 pieces of music on both 4th and 5th November 1983. Only 6 of these were recorded to multi-track and mixed for the original vinyl album. However for this Definitive Edition the entire set has been reconstructed, in the actual running order, using the best available sources from those two nights, and remastered by Karl Groom at Thin Ice Studios. This is intended to be a definitive edition of what is perhaps Twelfth Night’s best-loved album: the best available source material has been used for each track, but as you will hear it’s not perfection … think of the flaws as ‘scratches in fine leather’… Recommended!

GLASS HAMMER - Perilous - GBP 10.99 (released 23/10/2012)
The highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed IF and Cor Cordium releases of 2010 and 2011. Features Jon Davison, who became the front-man for YES while retaining his role as lead singer for Glass Hammer. This CD is a classic concept album created as one giant piece of music in thirteen parts. Lyrically, the album takes the listener on a perilous journey through the gate and beyond. Jon Davison of Glass Hammer is also the new vocalist with Yes!

MANGALA VALLIS - Microsolco - GBP 10.99 (released 01/10/2012)
Seven years after "Licanthrope", all is set for the release of "Microsolco", the highly anticipated new album of new Prog band Mangala Vallis. It's been a long time since the band's last album, during which many things have happened. Bernardo Lanzetti (vocals) and Riccardo Sgavetti (bass player) both left the band, with Roberto Tiranti, the extraordinarily gifted singer and bassist joining. The typical soundscapes and style of Mangala Vallis are all there, but there's room for a little more "rock". The versatile voice of Tiranti interprets it wonderfully, in an album that continues the stylistic groove pattern set with the first two albums. This is a release that will certainly please lovers of good Prog rock! Mangala Vallis are our favourite Italian Prog band here at progrock.co.uk!

GALAHAD - Beyond The Realms Of Euphoria - GBP 10.99 (released 01/10/2012)
‘Beyond The Realms Of Euphoria’ is the second new studio album to be released this year from established English progressive rock band Galahad. Recorded, engineered and mixed by Karl Groom (Threshold) at Thin Ice studios in Surrey. ‘Beyond The Realms Of Euphoria’, Galahad’s eighth studio album, shows the band treading similar water to that of ‘Battle Scars’ which was released earlier in 2012 but with a few additional and unexpected twists and turns.

ALAN REED - First In A Field Of One - GBP 9.99 (released 22/10/2012)
Ex Pallas singer unveils his first album as a solo artist. Alan Reed - for 25 years the voice of Scots Progressive Rock legends Pallas - unveils his first album as a solo artist. 'First in a Field of One' is a unique collection of songs that provide the perfect setting for the unmistakable timbre of Alan's voice. The album embraces a number of musical flavours - from Celtic folk, world music, and even jazz, held together by strong song writing and a passionate sense of identity.

KARNATAKA - New Light: Live In Concert (released 15/10/2012)
Blu-Ray: GBP 12.99 / DVD: GBP 11.99 / 2 CD: GBP 10.99
New Light (DVD, Blu-Ray, CD) filmed in High Definition video on the band's critically acclaimed New Light Tour 2012, captures Karnataka at their most powerful and majestic best. New Light features tracks from the band's back catalogue including the award winning (Best International Album – World Web Awards Italy) 2010 studio album The Gathering Light, a symphonic rock masterpiece but also previously unreleased versions of the traditional Celtic classic "Lagan Love" and new song "My Love". Hayley Griffiths' breathtaking vocals clearly illustrate why she was handpicked by Michael Flatley himself to perform in the Celtic phenomena Riverdance and Lord Of The Dance. Her effortless transformation to rock vocalist brings that magical something extra to the band’s unique symphonic sound.

STEVEN WILSON - Get All You Deserve (released 24/09/2012)
4 Disc Set - DVD + Blu-ray + 2CD - GBP 20.99
Blu-ray - GBP 11.99
DVD - GBP 10.99
New release from Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree).

LALLE LARSSON - Nightscapes - GBP 10.99 (released 05/10/2012)

GPS (founded in 2006) includes singer/bassist John Payne (ASIA), guitarist Guthrie Govan (ASIA, the Aristocrats), drummer Jay Schellen (ASIA, CIRCA:, Conspiracy), and keyboardist Ryo Okumoto (Spock's Beard).

FOCUS - X (released 29/10/2012)
Limited Edition: GBP 11.99 / Standard edition: GBP 9.99
After an comeback which resulted in the well received albums Focus 8 and Focus 9, the band is now back on the frontline, with a fantastic line-up. There is a rejuvenated passion in the new compositions that adorn the new album "Focus X", which features a full scale Roger Dean painting on the cover.

NEKTAR - A Spoonful of Time - GBP 11.99 (released 10/09/2012)
The first ever covers album from Prog Rock legends, Nektar, finds the band joined by an incredible gathering of musical heroes from a wide variety of genres. Artful, energetic twists on The Doors’ “Riders On The Storm,” Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here,” Rush’s “Sprit Of The Radio,” Roxy Music’s “Out Of The Blue” and more! Features performances by members of Yes, King Crimson, Symphony X, Opeth, Marillion, Asia, The Moody Blues, Dream Theater, Tangerine Dream, and more!

KAMELOT - Silverthorn - GBP 9.99 (released 29/10/2012)

After completing his epic quadrology last year with the simultaneous release of “Deconstruction” and “Ghost”, then putting out the strictly limited “Contain Us” Box as well as the “By A Thread” DVD box set, renowned multi-instrumentalist and producer Devin Townsend is now ready to start the next chapter in the DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT’s career with their new effort, “Epicloud”. “Epicloud” boasts 13 light-hearted, hook laden tracks featuring, once again, guest vocal appearances by Anneke van Giersbergen. It’s Epic and it’s loud, it’s “Epicloud”!

THRESHOLD - Extinct Instinct - Definitive Edition (2 CD) - GBP 11.99 (released 15/10/2012)
THRESHOLD - Clone - Definitive Edition (2 CD) - GBP 11.99 (released 15/10/2012)

Satirical, smirky commentary, wrapped in up tempo music. The band once again show their ability to shift gears while keeping their artistic integrity intact.
