I agree that the odd blip can be charming on live releases. Another thing I love to hear is the in-between song announcements, which are often quite amusing! cheesy

At the end of the day though, I respect artists rights to be happy with their releases. It's like their baby isn't it? smiley

I take on board everything you said regarding Andys' activities since the 2003 tour, although what I really was referring to was the period from Dec 2008 up til now, following your completion of the project and Andy's input on the audio side of things. The impression I got from CP is that Andy's health had much improved and that he was starting to get much more involved again. Added to this was the announcement from CP that the DVD was possibly originally scheduled for around Christmas 2008, and I'd recently been wondering about the possible
reasons for the delay in the release.

Hi Peter:
At the time of the announcement at the end of 2008, the plan was to release Camel's Farewell Tour DVD utilizing the audio that had been picked up by my digital camera mics, rather than the proper multitrack audio recording of the show mixed by Andy. Andy of course was not in any position to do the mix prior to this as he was still recovering from his ordeal. But they knew that demand for the DVD was high and wanted to give the fans an opportunity to see it.

The resulting audio would have been similar to an extremely high quality audience recording of sorts. Three of my camers were positioned in front of the stage - left, center, and right. And by mixing all three of the signals together you could get a full sounding stereo recording which wasn't too bad, although it was never intended to be released in this manner. The live mix that night was excellent and you could hear every instrument perfectly. Of course there would be no opportunity for overdubs or fixing, but the performance was such that it wasn't really necessary, in my opinion.

However, once Andy saw the final edited master, he felt like the high quality visual and the exuberance of the performance (you've got to see just how energetic this performance is, one of Camel's best in my opinion) was such that it merited a proper mix from the multitrack audio tapes to make the package the best it could be.

Although I'm not privy to what Andy's been up to since Dec 2008, I can guess that he has an awlful lot on his plate right now. I think he's just got to find the time to do the mix amidst all the other things he's got going on.

Cheers;
Dave

Dave...
Thanks, as always for your input!
It's really great just to have those snippets from you and from your involvement.
Sorry to say that you've only served to increase my desire to get my hands on this DVD..the more we discuss it, the more enticing it becomes!
Once again, thanks!
Kind Regards

Anybody ordered these as yet??
I think all the "extras" have been released already!
I would be interested in the expanded booklet on the Nude CD though..any commentshuh

nb: Sorry for the long posts of late..you can tell I haven't talked much "Camel" for a while!!
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
NUDE

Released 26/09/10. Unlike many bands whose careers had begun in the 1970 s, CAMEL continued to enjoy much success in the 1980 s, producing fine studio albums such as Nude. A conceptual work, the album featured many fine songs such as Lies, City Life and Drafted, along with excellent instrumental pieces such as Captured. An international success, Camel toured globally to promote the album, with their concert at Hammersmith Odeon recorded by the BBC for the In Concert programme.

This re-mastered and expanded release includes the lengthy medley Excerpts from Nude from that radio broadcast as over 30 minutes of bonus material. This new release also includes an extensive booklet with copious photographs, memorabilia and a new essay.

City Life / Nude / Drafted / Docks / Beached / Landscapes / Changing Places / Pomp And Circumstance / Please Come Home / Reflections / Captured / The Homecoming / Lies The Last Farewell The Birthday Cake / Nude Sreturn Live

Bonus Tracks
- City Life / Nude / Drafted / Docks / Beached / Landscapes / Changing Places / Reflections / Captured / The Last Farewell / The Birthday Cake / Nude Returns

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
PRESSURE POINTS

Released 26/10/09 Unlike many bands whose careers had begun in the 1970s, CAMEL continued to enjoy much success in the 1980s, producing fine studio albums such as Stationary Traveller. Although destined to be Camelís final studio album for Decca Records, it was a fine effort. The subsequent tour to promote the album was equally memorable and was captured by Decca at Hammersmith Odeon on 11th May 1984 and released as the album Pressure Points later that year. The concert saw CAMEL joined by former member PETER BARDENS for certain songs during the set, including a rousing version of Lady Fantasy, not featured on the original album.

Long unavailable on CD, this newly re-mastered Esoteric Recordings reissue has been expanded to a 2CD set to include songs not featured on the original album.

Disc one
Pressure Points / Drafted / Captured / Lies / Refugee / Vopos / Stationary Traveller / West Berlin / Fingertips

Disc two
Sasquatch / Wait / Cloak And Dagger Man / Long Goodbyes / Rhayader / Rhayader Goes To Town / Lady Fantasy
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
I CAN SEE YOUR HOUSE FROM HERE

Released 29/10 /10. Unlike many bands whose careers had begun in the early 1970 s, CAMEL still continued to enjoy much success at the close of the decade. I Can See Your House From Here was a revitalized work that included many fine songs such as Ice (featuring Phil Collins on Percussion), Hymn To Her and Your Love is Stranger Than Mine. Produced by Rupert Hine, the album was a chart success and spawned an extensive World tour. This Esoteric Recordings edition has been re-mastered from the original tapes and features two Bonus Tracks, including a live version of Ice recorded by the BBC in 1981. The accompanying CD booklet includes copious photographs and memorabilia and a new essay.

Wait / Your Love Is Stranger Than Mine / Eye Of The Storm / Who We Are / Survival / Hymn To Her / Neon Magic / Remote Romance / Ice

Bonus Tracks
- Remote Romance (Single Version) / Ice (Live)

Just for info......
The excellent and informative Andy Ward interview from 1992 (ish), which was originally published on the "Musart" site, is now back on line and available by following this link:

Well worth taking time out to read this!!

The expanded ' Pressure Points ' sounds interesting, but a pity it's still not the whole ' Total Pressure ' show. Often thought it would be really great if CP released this.

Another question for DM please !!!

Dave
On the footage 2 DVD, what was the audio mix source for "Fox Hill"?

Was it a) from your camera mics as you'd explained in your previous mail, b) a mix just for this particular release from the master audio recordings carried out by Andy, or c) something other?

Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter:
The answer is B. That was from the proper multitrack tapes and was mixed by Andy specifically for Footage 2. That wasn't the audio from my camera mics. I have a feeling that Andy will probably re-mix Foxhill when he mixes the rest of the concert for the new DVD so the sound is uniform throughout.

Wow, Squigs, talk about timing... are you psychic?

The final piece to the puzzle fell into place just this morning which means I will be making an announcement here by next week, or perhaps sooner.

I have a question for you. Since this announcement is Camel related, should I make it to this topic or start a new one?

Dave

PS. Shane are you ready for this?

Am I psychic? Could be! wink cheesy Just hoping the project was progressing.

As for your question, this topic is fine, but then again if you consider it really important, maybe start a new one. Up to you. smiley
