I see we still discuss ANAAW's merits? I think there are some excelelent ideas there and they could have bene developed further. I still think For Today (like The Hour Candle) are great tracks but seem too much modelled on recreating Ice - the latter being the best of the lot by far!

My favourite track is A Boy's Life

My fave of the 3 tracks you mentioned is 'The Hour Candle'.

As for 'A Boy's Life', I really love that one! smiley

I'm just playing A Nod And A Wink for the very first time. Just listening to the title track.
So far, my impressions are very favourable.
Will report back when I've heard the entire album.

Thanks David. I'm on the last track now, and it has a fine Gilmour-like solo on it. I must say I do like this album, though I'm not sure about the tracks were Latimer puts on the 'country dialect'. Musically they're fine though.
I think the only 'essential' Camel album I need to hear at some point now is Rajaz. I already have six others:

Mirage
The Snowgoose
Moonmadness
Dust And Dreams
Harbour Of Tears
A Nod And A Wink

Will put them in some sort of favourite order once I've gotten more used to ANAAW. smiley

As always when it comes to music, what is "essential" is a matter of individual taste.

Rain Dances and I Can See Your House From Here would be in my top 3;
I like the S/T debut as much as if not more than the two heralded albums that followed;
Rajaz is my favourite album from the post hiatus period but I would select Nude over any of those of those four last studio albums.

Camel, because they evolved so much over the years, tend to generate widely varied opinions - just like Genesis or Fleetwood Mac.

You may discover there are some great gems beyond the limits of that list of supposedly "essential" albums. wink
