I think it's good for a band to please themselves with what they release than a record label though. Or even some of their fans come to that. Everyone can't be pleased all the time....Can't be very inspirational for a band if their hearts aren't in the music after all.

I quite agree Squigs.
If you think about it, all bands want to improve from the albums that went before, generally speaking. Yes there maybe contractual obligations that perhaps might press a band into releasing an album earlier than wished, however I believe that in order to be progressive, most bands try out new sounds or styles. after all, it would be boring if all the albums sounded exactly the same and they would have a smaller following as a consequence.

Yes indeed demoman. The many styles of Camel albums are so interesting! smiley

Try winrar. it's a freebie, and opens all types of zipped files.

That page has links to a lot of Camel shows. I was attracted to this one, as I was at the gig, and met the band afterwards.

The full list (At the time I posted the link) is down the side of the page. There have been a few more shows added since.

How about giving disc 1 of 'Never Let Go' a spin? Turn it up until things in the room start to rattle as I did recently! Very inspiring and also cleared out the cobwebs! smiley wink

I've listened to some Camel - only the mid-1970s stuff so far - and have enjoyed it. I would like to know what you think about this double CD compilation. It seems very good value and gets good reviews even though it only covers 1973-1985. OK, I know serious Camel fans will scoff at the idea of a compilation album and say buy the individual studio albums. wink But compilation albums do serve a purpose as introducing a band in a convenient package and can lead to buying the individual albums at a later date. So would you say this represents Camel well for a relative novice? All thoughts welcome. smiley

Yeah I do agree most die hard Camel fans would scoff at a compilation as one did when I was first introduced to the band....but looking at the track listing for that price it's an amazing list and one well worth getting for the novice just so they can have a taster.

It covers an excellent period right up until Stationary Traveller and includes some gems from The Snow Goose, Moonmadness, Mirage, Nude and you have Ice as well so all in all not a bad buy...yes Nige I say go for it...maybe later on you could then buy the catalogue bit by bit....

The DPRP poll results for 2010 are here and Camel featured rather prominently...

The Opening Farewell made the top 10 for best DVD, and Andy's himself was voted #11 best guitarist of 2010 as a result of his guitar contribution to Masquerade...
