Yeah, lovely stuff Squigs! Was a little disappointed with the sound quality/mix in places but I'd say that's more down to me being a bit of a sound 'anorak' than anything. It can be a curse sometimes!

Having said that I think it's a very honest and relaxed performance and well worth having. In fact I'll give it another spin this evening! smiley

Yep, sure is lovely stuff! Great to see them having fun isn't it? Love the bit when Andy puts his head on Colin's shoulder. Pure gold! smiley

I've listened to Mirage, The Snow Goose and Moonmadness several times now via Spotify. And I like what I'm hearing smiley although it will clearly take a few listens to fully appreciate. wink The instrumentation is excellent - slightly jazzy at times - and the flute passages are lovely. My one very slight criticism would be the vocals, which I think are a bit weak, but that is only a minor gripe. wink And anyway, they do lots of instrumentals. cool I will carry on listening for a while before deciding which album(s) to buy.

I know where you're coming from regarding the vocals but I've always thought that Andy and Colins' vocals go with the material very well. My favourite Camel tracks are instrumentals though.

If you haven't already it's worth checking out some of the later material ie, Nude, Stationary Traveller, Dust and Dreams, Rajaz, Harbour of tears and A Nod and a Wink. They're all slightly different flavours!

In my opinion the best live album is 'Never Let Go' This is a double cd with excellent sound quality and the band performing at their best. smiley

Glad you've been listening to a bit of Camel and the 3 you've been listening are excellent albums...I agree with the suggestion about giving the later stuff a go and I also agree with Never Let Go being the best live album and the Coming of Age dvd which is the visual version of Never Let Go...mind you I must warn you there are 2 or 3 albums in their catalogue that are absolute stinkers bar the odd track here and there....but then again that's just my opinion as I know many fans love those albums too...

They are actually from different tours. There is a Coming of age 2 CD set as well as the DVD, but it is not as good as Never Let Go, IMO.

Yes, me too! smiley I've always been a fan of Andy's vocals, but his voice has changed over the years, as can be heard on the later albums. You might just prefer it Down and Out. wink

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll listen to the 3 mid-70s albums a few more times and then sample some later stuff. Carpetwalker - if you could PM me the names of the albums you regard as "stinkers", I'd be interested to have a listen. Ta.

There are no 'stinkers' in Camel's back catalogue. There are albums better than others but IMHO no albums disappoints. The band became more symphonic from the early 90s whereas they were a little more jazz/bluesey in the 70s. Snow Goose is a fab album while Moonmadness is almost as good.

I was only stating my own opinion as Camel is one of my fave bands ever but there are at least 2 albums I can't bear to listen too...1 in particular but if you enjoy it then great...just to put the record straight I wasn't referring at all to The Snow Goose and Moonmadness as they are 2 of my fave albums ever.

You want to have another guess as to which album(s) I'm referring to?... cool
