I watched it all late last night, and really just confirmed that Andy Latimer is my favourite guitarist ever!

I saw Steve Hackett on Thursday, and brilliant he was too, but to see Andy playing, well, that does it for me smiley cool

The reason for this was simply because it was the only show Camel ended up playing in California where me and my crew were located. The rest of the US shows were all on the East Coast 3000 miles away and it would have been cost prohibitive to fly my crew out there (we had thought about recording the Nearfest gig, but ultimately ruled it out).

So we devised a plan where we would film both the first and last show of the tour, thus showing the band's 'evolution'. I had arranged to hire an English crew to do the final show in the UK and I would fly over there to direct. However, a week before that show, the crew in England I had arranged for cancelled and simultaneously I was called in to do some more work on a project with Mel Gibson which I couldn't get out of. At first disappointed, CP's attitude was 'well, it just wasn't meant to be.' So we were left with just the first show recorded.

And even though it's the first show, I thought it turned out brilliant, energetic, and nearly flawless. How Tom Brislin was able to learn the entire Camel setlist in a week was simply astounding. shocked

Cheers;
Dave

Thanks DM for another invaluable insight.

It would have been fascinating to capture the last night, with Ton on keyboards and the electric atmosphere in the Corporation. Seen loads of gigs, but never experienced anything quite like that; loads of banter with the audience and finally forcing the guys to come back well after the houselights went on. I'd cough up another sizeable donation just for a soundboard audio of that one.

NEARfest was filmed by their own tech crew I understand, but of course under strict instructions from Susan that there be no external copies made. Might be useful as a source of future bonus material - surely Andy will have a copy somewhere.

Yes sounds like a glitch in the system. Marcel you are 9th on the donor list which means yours would go out early. (Eric is 6th and his arrived yesterday). So hang on in there smiley

Arrived home to find it waiting for me cheesy
However, I won't have time to see it until the weekend sad
And Mal - if you're a failure in life for only seeing them live once I hate to think what that makes me as I have never seen them.

No additional booklet info at all... undecided

On top of that, I'll have to wait until Saturday to"officially" get my hands on it wink

I was very touched....I'll treasure that autograph forever....

Indeed, and particularly because Andy's hands are sometimes adversely affected. What a hero and role model!

Glad yours finally arrived Marcel and I'm sure you will find the experience of watching the DVD completely blows away any negative feelings about the minimalistic booklet.

As a completist I miss not having the encores, even with sound from the camera mic they'd be very interesting. But at the same time I respect the quality control that CP put into their releases. Even so, when I get a couple of spare hours I will be compiling Fox Hill from "Footage" back into my DVD lipsrsealed
