No, not a Pink Floyd tribute, though someone here may nominate a PF song or album.

The Question is: Is there a recording at which you wish you had been present, merely as an observer? One song or a whole album.

For me, it's "To our Children's Children's Children" by the Moody Blues. To have been there watching my favourite band, creating what, for me, is their best album, and the best concept album ever, at such a pivotal time in history, with the Moon Landing that inspired it (it was producer Tony Clarke's idea, apparently) taking place literally during the recording, seems like the perfect moment to watch the process.

It's only a bootleg recording, but: Genesis' live performance from 1971 that includes "The Light."

If I was going to sit in on a studio session, it would probably be more enjoyable to me if it was one where all of the musicians playing on the song were performing together, live in the studio.
With that in mind, I would have been in heaven watching Steve Winwood on organ, trade off leads with Jimi Hendrix when they recorded "Voodoo Chile" (Electric Ladyland Jimi Hendrix Experience).

There are too many to list.

The first that came into my head was Goodbye Yellow Brick Road & in particular Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. Honestly I could nominate a song or album by all my favourite artists.

I agree. So this rules out many more recent recordings, which might have a basic track laid down and then parts are gradually added and replaced.

According to Glyn Johns, much of Who's Next was recorded live, with some overdubs added afterwards. I would have loved to have been there.

Have you watched the making of GYBR DVD? As close as you'll get to actually having been there.

I'd be just as happy watching a band create the tracks slowly with overdubs etc. The whole studio craft thing is interesting in itself.

But whatever floats your boat..... wink

For me, it would obviously have to be The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

No, I don't think so. In fact, the thought is very off-putting.

For me it would be Dark Side Of The Moon. Both bands were going thru some turmoil during the making of these albums. Still, it would have been great to be in attendance, or at least to be a fly on the wall grin
