Each year, for me, it's the unexpected releases I look forward to especially by artists I have never heard before. I'm almost always disappointed when I anticipate a new album by an artist whose music I enjoy. The past few years have provided music lovers with a treasure trove of amazing new bands and artists. As a teenager, i couldnt wait go to the record store, with the hopes of finding something new and wonderful to listen to. Nowadays, I find great new artists on the DPRP site, as well as Progarchives. On YouTube, you can find and listen to many great bands. Bandcamp is another great site.

Looking forward to new albums from Elbow, Aimee Mann, The Shins, and Hackett. And like CoT, hopefully I'll make some new discoveries throughout the year.

Whiteout Conditions by the New Pornographers. For those that don't know this Canadian band, they have lots of great hooks, thick harmonies, and are lots of fun.

Not exactly a new album, but I am very interested in the deluxe edition of Prince's Purple Rain. It has a remastered version of the original album, but more importantly it has a lot of rare or unreleased tracks on 2 more discs. In most cases these sorts of things are interesting for one listen, but in Prince's case many of them could be gems.

For example, the extended mix of Let's Go Crazy is fantastic (and is the version in the film). I have this on 12" so would be really happy to get it on CD also. There are also many songs that were played on the tour but were otherwise hard to track down like Irresistible Bitch, Possessed, God, etc.

The deluxe version also comes with a DVD of the Purple Rain tour live in Syracuse. I have this on VHS and it is a great show and apparently the sound and video have been restored.
