I don't necessarily agree there's filler on that album unless you're talking Hungry Heart and Crush On You.

Those are fillers? Surely not!
I’m not keen on Drive All Night & Wreck on the Highway myself but I wouldn’t call them filler.

Unfortunately I can’t go to the Manchester concert sad

Haha. To me they are. Aside from Born To Run, Hungry Heart was his first commercial "hit" and was really put on the album to get a single out there for some AirPlay. Maybe not technically "filler" but it had a different purpose for being on the album than the rest of it. Crush is quirky, and I was always surprised it made it onto the album instead of other songs recorded in those session like Roulette and or I Wana Be With You. Not coincidently Bruce hardly ever played it live after maybe the first tour.

Different strokes but the two you mentioned are two of my all time favorite "slower" Bruce tunes. The lyrics and melodies are just beautiful IMO, and Clarence's sax work on DAN will always have a special place in my heart. Plus, who wouldn't drive all night just to buy her some shoes and taste her tender charms? wink

Hungry Heart got a lot of airplay in the UK but it wasn’t a big hit here although it raised awareness of him, at least amongst schoolgirls, the only demographic I can speak for! laugh . Thanks to a schoolfriend who went on about Bruce incessantly, & Capital Radio who bombarded us with his tracks, I caved in & bought The River. It stood out because nearly all the tracks on it were great, from the short rockers to Independence Day, my all time favourite “slower” Bruce tune by a mile. Whereas Born to Run, his 2nd best album (I bought them all soon after getting The River), was a real half & half LP, with 4 outstanding tracks & 4 I wasn’t keen on.

HH definitely served its purpose then. What you described was exactly the reason it was on the album and released as a single. Don't get me wrong, I like it but after seeing it practically every show for decades, ( I get why he plays it) I'd just rather he do some others as well. Independence Day is a perfect example of a song I expected to see on the European setlists. I mean it is The River Tour!

I'm about as big a Bruce fan as there is, and between the jump in cost for tix this tour, the misleading of the UK/ European fans, and the move to offering Platinum Seats to the US shows for the first time ever ($500 a pop) I'm definitely a bit disappointed this time around in my fellow New Jersean.

The shows are/will be great as always but I really feel he should be giving the UK/European fans what they paid for. That being The River Tour and not a greatest hits ( been there done that) tour.

Well it looks like Manchester got back to the River a bit more. cool 8 or 9 tunes but only one from side two. embarassed

Looks like there was something for everyone even a Santa Claus is Coming To Town! No doubt another great show by Bruce and the band and I'm glad he threw in a few more River tunes but still wish he'd add a couple more.

Also at Manchester, thoroughly enjoyed it except for no Cadillac Ranch but you can't get everything.

After the two nights in Dublin I can't wait for Glasgow on Wednesday. Setlists seem to be getting more varied. Hoping beyond hope that he will play The Price You Pay and Drive All Night. Can't see it happening though.
Adam Raised A Cain would be great as well

It's going great over here,ia.

Looks like you got some tasty treats and SO glad you got at least one side two rarity off The River in Drive All Night. It's a bit of a shame IMO, it came at the expense of Point Blank though. I know I'm saying the same thing over and over but I'm really bummed for you guys not getting more side two tunes. Especially since it was billed as "The River Tour" in the UK when tix went on sale and he was doing the whole album here at the time as well. The Price You Pay should be an every nighter over there,IMO.

Your show looks great and I'm sure it was fantastic being there, and hopefully if you get to another he gives you some more River Rarities.

If we get setlists like that back here in the States over the summer, I won't complain since I knew in advance he wouldn't be doing the full River on that leg. I'd take your opening five pack,Youngstown thru Drive, and Because The Night thru that encore anytime! cool

Glad you enjoyed the show and got a couple of Bruce solo tunes to open and close as well. Definitely a treat to get those two. I've gotten For You solo piano a few times but in all these years only got TR solo accoustic once, and I'll never forget it. Great to see he's closing shows with it!!

Eric,

Which upcoming show(s) are you planning to see?

So far just Philly1. Probably gonna do Philly 2 as well and if things go real well I'll get to Chicago. Not counting on that one but really want to see an arena show.

August might be tough though as I'm heading to Florida for a week or so. Gonna catch MMJ backing Ray LaMontagne at the Amp, and really trying to hit the NC show with Gina on the way down. If I do both of those it'll most likely put the kabosh on Chicago.

I'm really hoping to hear an announcement for some fall arena dates similar to 09. I'll probably hold off on Philly 2 until the last minute and if no fall shows by then, I'll hit Philly 2.
