Anathema

One of the bands which has been included on the discs I've been sent by NedFlanders includes a band called "Anathema" from Liverpool. I decided to look them up today, and I was rather surprised to find that one of their genres is... death metal.
They are also a prog band apparently, they and an alternative rock band... but they do death metal as well, especially in their early period. How does their death metal sound? Is it tolerable or scary? I'm a bit scared to listen to them because death metal makes my ears bleed - no offence to any death metal fans reading this.

According to my iTunes playlist the song Get off, get out is the mostly played track of all. It is from the album We`re here, because we`re here, which is simply fantastic. It is not a death metal album.

I am currently listening to that album.
Yesterday I also checked out some of their death metal, and it doesn't sound too bad, maybe because they do it in a more sophisticated fashion. It's not my kind of thing but it's not headache music and is therefore tolerable for me.

They have never done death metal. Their early albums were classed ad doom metal. They changed when Alternative 4 came out.

The new one is called Weather Systems. It'll be released on April 16th (tomorrow, in other words):

I asked for a couple of extra Anathema albums from Ned, called "Eternity" and "Judgement". One is alternative/gothic metal while the other is closer to their style on WHBWH. Weather Systems also sounds nice.

I've a hunch - which may very well be wrong - that Weather Systems will be one of the years's best.
I haven't heard a note of it yet, though, so what do I know

Played it once and it's a good one. Will have to listen a few more times to give it a proper apraisal
