Would that be vocal harmonies? Clearly I need to listen to more of his recent stuff - Hackett's an artist who is poorly represented in my record collection.
At this precise moment it's Syd Barrett singing Dominos - sublime and very touching.

Indeed, I do mean vocal harmonies. Steve often gets criticised for his vocal performances. Certainly, he isn't the world's best singer, and on albums like Cured he doesn't come across in a very favourable light, but he has improved over the years. And when it comes to providing backing harmonies, both for himself, and for other singers he has used in his bands over the years, he does know how to produce a lovely effect. Very atmospheric. Think of tracks like 'Virgin And The Gypsy' off Spectral Mornings. Guitar Noir has more than one track with the same sort of beautiful harmonising on it. Imo, it's a strength of Steve's that isn't always appreciated, or maybe even noticed.
