I'm going to hold fire for now, as I think I need to hear a lot more, but at the moment the top two that spring to mind are Steven Wilson - To the Bone and Neil Finn - Out of Silence.

Most of my purchases this year were old albums. The best of everything will always be behind us.

So I will cheat (sort of) and say that the best album released in 2017 was the remastered "Slow Dance" by Anthony Phillips. 25 years of listening to this astonishing album, and then it gets better. Outstanding.

Side note: song of the year, "Refuge" by Steven Wilson. Among other things, it took an instrument I hate (the harmonica) and made me love it.

A lot of good releases but my favourite of 2017 is the album We are all in this together by IT. Seems to have slipped under the radar by many. A fabulous album imho

DIAGRAMS - Dorothy
ST VINCENT - Masseduction
THE CHARLATANS - Different Days
GOLDFRAPP - Silver Eye
JUIANA HATFIELD - Pussycat

The U2 one is on my xmas list but what I've heard so far is encouraging.

I think I have at least 8 new releases from 2017, and there are still two others I want that I haven’t gotten around to getting or hearing yet.
I basically like those that I have, but there are two that stand out for not only being among the best of the year, but, IMO, among the best of that particular artist

Steven Wilson – To The Bone
This is an album that has divided fans, some thinking it’s his worst album and dismissing it as too poppy. I disagree on both counts. I’d have to listen to all of SW’s albums back to back to be sure, but this one is easily in my top 3, maybe even top 2. Thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end.

Magenta – We Are Legend
Of the five albums I’ve heard from this band (my great thanks to Ned Flanders), the new one is easily among my favourites, for me just a notch beneath the excellent “Seven.”

I have not giving this album too many listens... First impressions were good though, does have that heavier edge in their music!...

Got quite a few new ones this year, so my list for 2017 is incomplete wink grin

I'll admit I didn't buy or listen to many new albums. My favourite new releases were:

Whiteout Conditions - The New Pornographers
Pleasure - Feist
Melodrama - Lorde
Only of Earth - Emm Gryner
Metaphysics - Sarah Slean
Mental Illness - Aimee Mann
