Ok i sware when i got seconds out in the long cardboard box double disc set back in the late 90s that their was a woman possibly opra singer at the beginning and end of this show. Now i have the genesis live 1973-2007 box and she's not on it. From what i recall it was probably just a tape playing before the band came out and when they left. Am i going crazy or did they edit that out? Lol

I don't recall there being an opera singer, but the original mix had a count-in from (probably) Chester. "...two, three, four" before launching into Squonk. For some reason, it was removed in the '07 remix. It's also missing from the new vinyl release.

Maybe when you're older and you're thinking back, you might recall.

She sings "There's no business like show business like no business I know" after the medley of It/WOTS on the 4th side of 3 sides live

It's Ethel Merman, a well known musical theatre and film actress. It's an old recording of hers, for which she is well known, played over the PA to let the audience know the gig has finished.

When I saw the title, I though maybe Genesis were putting together a Seconds Out Box Set, possibly expanding the playlist. Of course they had that opportunity when the Live Box Set came out but nothing new was added which was a shame. I recently reordered Seconds Out to make it more like the set list from 1977 and added some songs off HQ bootlegs from the tour. I left off The Cinema Show since that was taken from the 1976 tour:

Squonk
One For The Vine (1/2/77 London)
Robbery, Assault & Battery
Firth Of Fifth
The Carpet Crawlers
In That Quiet Earth (1/2/77 London)
Afterglow (1/2/77 London)
I Know What I Like (1/2/77 London)

Eleventh Earl Of Mar (1/2/77 London)
All In A Mouses Night (1/2/77 London)
Supper's Ready
Dance On A Volcano
Los Endos
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
The Musical Box Closing Section

This really improves Seconds Out as the 1/2/77 London recordings sound very similar to the Paris shows that Seconds Out was sourced from. It's definitely more complete! cool

I note that the bit with Ethel Merman was on my original UK vinyl copy of 3SL, but not on my original US vinyl copy of SO. However, it's on my CD copies (Definitive Edition) of both.

It is on my dad's vinyl copy of Seconds Out he purchased back then when it came out, and it is on my CD copy of Three Sides Live (older edition with additional studio tracks, got it second-hand).

But "It/Watcher Of The Skies" wouldn't be on the version with the studio tracks... unless you have some edition with both "fourth" sides.

Still amazing to me, given the number of times 11th Earl was played live, that no official release was ever forthcoming.

The best thing we have is the 1/2/77 London recording. I would search that one out if you don't have it!

Assume you mean the TM version? Agree, it's good, but not multi-track, official release good.

Yes, the TM version. It's the next best thing we have to a multi-track and it's better than some live multi-tracks that have had vocals dubbed in...
