If W&W is their most feminine album, what is their most masculine?
...and what defines these things?

I truly wouldn't know the answer to that but I've always found curious the fact that Mike said that W&W was their most ''femenine'' álbum and who knows? Perhaps he is right but his main, individual contribution to that record was YOSW....

TLLDOB. It's told from the viewpoint of a Puerto Rican street punk (or whatever you want to call it). The whole vibe of it is for the most part very masculine in my view.

WAW as their most feminine album? I don't think so, in fact I can't really think of a Genesis album that fits that description. However I can easily name what I believe is their most masculine album - CAS.

The Lamb, clearly. "Back In NYC," "Counting Out Time," "The Lamia," "The Colony of Slippermen"... all steeped in overt manliness.

Mike and Phil have both tagged W&W as feminine due to the classically romantic feel of the music. And they give the impression that it doesn't rock as hard as ATOTT. If these are qualities that make a feminine album, then Geese and the Ghost would also be quite feminine, imo. I don't think it's meant to be derogatory.

If that defines feminine then Abacab might qualify for a very masculine album. Genesis might be regarded as a quite "feminine" band anyways compared to, say, AC/DC. But honestly I don't think these vague terms make too much sense.

Well, that was Mike's opinión anyway. I don't know, perhaps the title or the atmosphere prompted him to say that.

the 'mama' album. the main characters in mama, home by the sea, illegal alien, just a job to do and silver rainbow are presumably male...

I'd say Duke was their most masculine album: lots of ballsy, driving rock at both ends; Man of Our Times and Turn It On Again are also ballsy rockers, and the love songs are about guys going through the wringer. Banks' faintly proggy tracks are the least masculine but still pretty dark and moody, and Guide Vocal is a guy realising that he's on his own against the rest of the world and everyone in it.

Duke really is a man's album.
