Since the masses aren't buying new music anymore, bands are resorting to repackaging their old albums into elaborate (and expensive) multi-disc box sets, such as the new Joshua Tree box available for pre-order on Amazon. Mostly, I think people are crazy for buying these, but are there any Genesis albums that would make you consider dropping $100+ to get seven discs with every conceivable outtake, plus a concert from the tour, and a hard bound book?

The Lamb. Put the original definitive mix out there with an authentic and full Lamb live from the unreleased 24 track they found post archive, a double Cd of rehearsal tapes and Robert Ellis' Book and I'd get it.

I don't think there's any album on earth that would make me consider that. tongue

I might consider one of the later albums if it contained a show that hadn't been widely circulated, plus the full jam sessions that gave birth to the album. Genesis or WCD might be interesting in this format.

I'd do it for either Seconds Out or 3 Sides Live:
- recordings of all songs played live on the 1976 and 1977 tours (including interesting alternative versions), plus all footage available from the 1976 film and whatever is best for the 1977 tour.
- recordings of all songs from the Abacab and Encore tours plus full video of all performances

I think that would be a great idea for Seconds Out and 3SL, especially the latter, which I think was completely bungled in the 2007 Live Box. It would need to include the full album in surround sound, which should have been done in the first place.

Remastered Duke, extended with the two B-sides, followed by album outtakes and early mixes plus all the recorded songs from that unfinished album the band scrapped before Abacab was created, plus the full 1980 Lyceum concert CD and DVD set.

Maybe not priced at 100, but I'd absolutely buy that if it came out. smiley

There's no unfinished and then scrapped album before Abacab.

Don't you guys know? The band had recorded enough songs to fill at least a double album for the successor to Duke. However, they hated most of the songs on it as they felt they were too similar to their previous work. They decided to keep the tracks they felt were less similar, and assembled/reworked them into what became Abacab and spared a few others for B-sides and the 3x3 EP. The other tracks were forgotten but who knows, maybe they have some recordings of them in their archives? Obviously not complete tracks, but some early drafts would be fine.

Although I quite enjoyed the boxsets from about 10 years ago, with the 5.1 surround remixes and all the videos and b-sides and bonus material included, etc. I've been thinking of late that it would be nice to just have straight up remastered versions of all the albums, with ALL b-sides included as bonus tracks on the album. Not remixed, but just remastered from the originals.

It seems the remastering process has made vast improvements in technology and in method over the last decade. What with some issues with compression and whatnot on certain albums in the boxset release, it would be nice to hear the catalogue given the same treatment that Phil's albums received-cos his remasters sound fantastic!

It has been mentioned on the forum before. Not that I'm saying it's true, but it's certainly "out there".

The 50th anniversary edition of Sgt. Pepper is due out soon in this format, doesn't appeal to me, but I'm hoping the Moody Blues Days Of Future Passed will appear, 50 in November.

As for Genesis, The Lamb holds most promise, to me.

100% agree. Any future album reissues must include the original mixes tastefully remastered.
