It's not really. It's the same rehashed Mike interview from several months back where he said Never say Never...again.
Hmm...could be a movie there..

Let's collect all the phrases they use.

"It's not out of question"
"Never say never"
"We're not not reforming"

What else might they come up with? "We never split up, we're just taking a little break" - "The band is not defunct but we understand it might look so" - "There are no plans for the next 800 years but don't worry, Genesis is still alive and kicking"... tongue

The headline says that Mike said there may be shows for the 50th anniversary. But they don't actually quote him saying it. I don't think you can get "Yes, there is a possibility we may be doing 50th anniversary shows" out of "never say never." So either he said it or they made it up. But I don't know why the articles would say he said it if he didn't.

I'll let the rest slide, I learned long ago you are incapable of debating without dropping personal remarks and as usual you are enjoying it but....

What personal remarks have I made? Are you simply projecting here?

It is evidently about Phil, if Tony had arthritis and couldn't play,it would be about Tony and it wouldn't mean I am trashing him, would it?
Phil can't drum, he said it himself, it has been widely reported and it is not an assumption or a perception, if you have different data, news and info please share it or be quiet.

Phil, as a drummer, was a fraction of any Genesis concert after Peter had left the band. His limited abilities now, strictly as a drummer, do not prevent him from performing as a frontman, something which he has established over many years.

Quote:
Does it mean that I am being dismissive? Where? How? it's simpy the way it is. I am more sorry than you can imagine but I accept it.

You have nothing to base your assertions upon. Phil has made a few public appearances at this point and has been favourably acknowledged. You seem to be focussed only upon his drumming, but that has already been recognized as a limitation in that one respect. It does not limit his ability to perform as a frontman.

Quote:
As for the singing, is it unfair and dismissive to say that he cannot sing Genesis material the way he used to? Seems to me another fact and if your ears function halfway OK you will agree. So no slight there either.
The REAL problem seems to be another: would some fans enjoy to hear him sing those songs anyway, anyhow?

That is no more than a subjective opinion. I could easily argue that Peter Gabriel also cannot sing Genesis material the way he used to. Are you willing to dismiss a Genesis reunion based upon that reality?

And how can you speak for other Genesis fans? What makes you believe that they would or would not enjoy hearing either Peter or Phil sing those songs?

Quote:
I am sure they would, it has been made quite clear in this thread where btw in the beginning I said specifically that I knew I would be in the minority. Do I have a problem with that? None! Would I enjoy it? No, not so much, I am sure I may. What your problem with that is, I don't know and I don't need to know, not really interested, since we are talking about personal preferences but I'm sure as usual you will make it a point to tell me.

You can enjoy, or not enjoy, whatever you prefer. But you cannot make judgements upon things which you have no actual information. Phil has yet to perform in a full concert setting. To make any assessment regarding how well he will perform, well before he actually takes the stage, would be overtly presumptuous.

A lot to say, more than I can stomach I fear but let's try this: can you quote me or provide evidence of me saying what other fans shoud or shouldn't enjoy in the unlikely case of a reunion? When and IF you can do this I will, not very gladly, address other stuff. If not and if you don't distort my words you won't, I think we are done here.

If I may, this exchange seems symptomatic of a common forum phenomenon that I have been involved in on other forums.

Two people with strong opinions differ because one seems to present his opinion as fact, as if he speaks for everyone, without saying "in own my humble opinion." The second person then responds to the strong opinion by challenging it, and so forth.

It usually just goes on and on because both people are unwilling to modify their opinions or the way they state them.

Invite Ant as well! I'd love to see an Eagles style reunion tour with rotating members on stage depending on the songs performed. Pull out Stagnation or Visions of Angels...that would be tremendous!

Has he ever performed anything live since Genesis?
