And yet, Peter and Sting toured and played together this past year and put on a great show.

Not quite the same isn't it? Both of them are quite active Peter live and Sting live and recording, in fact they have been touring incessantly, both of them are singers who can still bring it, the way they used to, their performances can absolutely be compared to those of decades ago, neither of them is or has retired, evidently they still feel like going on and they do so in a very dignified way. Genesis is a whole different scenario for various reasons I would say.

We can still discuss it I think, no? No matter whether one goes or less or it happens or else.

Funny you should say that, I felt exactly the opposite, I just didn't write it. I find the idea of wanting to see them, no matter the conditions, extremely selfish, after all it is based on one's desire of something happening and bending or ignoring things just to have one's wish. Look, I already said I am aware of being in the minority and let's be clear, if they decided to give it a go, good on them and enjoy it, I wouldn't dare criticizing them or who goes to see them plus I know it wouldn't certainly be for the money. I just prefer to remember them the way they were. I'm sure I may and I don't think anybody should be offend by that or label me in any way. TO ME the cracks were already audible 10 years ago, it's enough FOR ME.

I don't understand why some folks are so precious about the thought that Genesis wouldn't still be Genesis if there were other musicians onstage with them.

I can't speak for other folks but as far as I'm concerned I guess this is how Genesis got me used to....Genesis. I was always OK with dozens of people on stage at a Pink Floyd concerts, I was OK with other musicians on their records, I was OK with Yes having a revolving doors line up. Every band have a different dynamic. Genesis were always, apart from the EW&F experiment which as you will imagine I didn't like, a close unit both on records and live. Floyd wanted to recreate the studio sound, bit for bit, it was their choice, their vision and I was OK with that. When Genesis hired Chester and Daryl I could see why, there was no other choice, here though we are talking about something different, they can't do it anymore so let's get some other people, better yet, relatives, so it almost like the real thing. Phil can't drum and he can't sing either not the way he used to. It's a pity but it's a fact, I accept that, some people apparently can't or don't want to. With Phil not being able to perform, FOR ME it is not a Genesis reunion. We had ths conversation before, you are OK for instance with songs being lowered a couple of keys, I think they are not the same. I don't enjoy them but I don't have a problem if you do.

I guess, I just think it's pointless discussing something that is no chance of happening

I agree with you, it won't happen but considering Genesis are no more and it has been like that for some time now, if this forum would stop entertain hypothetical thoughts or overelaborating the past, it might as well close down.

True!

I wouldn't have an issue with extra musicians, The Moody Blues have done it for years, and it's never been an issue. The issue became the setlist remaining largely unchanged for 30 years, not gonna be an issue for Genesis!

Besides, what do they need? A drummer, that's it, (Maybe a keyboard player if Tony is feeling lazy) and I'd choose Gary O'Toole over Chester anyway.

I doubt they'd be keen on people entering and leaving the stage, but that could be dealt with, Peter & Phil don't have to stick to their own "era's". that could be interesting anyway.

But frankly, given a choice, I'd choose an album (even a short one) over a tour anyway.

I sure use the word "anyway" a lot, don't I? Where have I picked that up? wink

Intresting, you mean new material or re-arranging old one like they did with the Carpet Crawlers?

Of course I would. I was talking about the people that wouldn't want to see them because they deem them to be too old. I'd see them if they were a hundred

Any reunion would be more legitimate for me than the current proposal for an Eagles reunion at a big festival without the late Glenn Frey. This is a sore spot with me & I would like Genesis to just try it no matter how briefly. I don't mind if they have other musicians (again, the Eagles did that for years).

New material.

And if they re-arranged old material, definitely NOT like they did with Carpet Crawlers! wink

For me and the fans, having the original lineup on stage is the highlight!... I'm sure these guys if this happens will perform their best and add additional musicians to the band if needed!.... cheesy
