Eras or less I am personally fine with practically everything they did from 1970 to 1980, a couple of songs being the exception but there's no such thing as perfection.
My personal favorite is still Trick, followed by all the albums with Peter. Their weakest during that decade, is imo ATTW3 and no, I still don't believe it's because Steve left. Duke is brilliant.
From 1981 on, I pick and choose, I believe the first side of Mama is great and then I like the odd song but no longer the entire albums.

Although I love all their work with Peter, the mid to late seventies is my favorite period. Trick and Wind have always been favorites but And Then There Were Three has really become something special for me lately. I just really connect to all three of those, with Trick as the highlight being my favorite album.

1970-1992 with an emphasis on 1973-1982.

My most favourite era is from Duke through Abacab and 3 sides live. I still love everything there after, then backwards from ATTWT to Tresspass.

The Blue Box plus SO and 3SL perfectly mark my favorite era of the band. I wish they'd remaster it and reduce the compression, as I'd buy this set of albums yet again.

Another question: if your favourite era of Genesis hadn't happened, do you think you'd still be a fan?

Absolutely. My favorite era ended up being 4-man, but I originally became a fan based on DUKE.

My favourite era is 70-77, though my introduction to Genesis was ATTW3 and I was hooked just on the merits of that introductory album.

So I can only assume if the pre-78 stuff didn't exist, I would have still become a fan, though without the likes of Nursery Cryme and Wind and Wuthering fueling that passion, I doubt I would have developed into quite as intense of a fan.

Good one! Let's see, I would have to delete an entire decade 70-80 and start with Abacab: they would have probably caught my attention with a couple of songs but I am not sure I would have become a fan. I would have probably been hooked with Mama but they would have lost me completely with IT.

My first exposure to anything Genesis-related was Phil's work with Brand X, and then Face Value, so I'd probably still have become a casual fan, but without the unsurpassable brilliance of the 1970-1977 era, I definitely wouldn't have grown to consider them one of the greatest bands of all time.

I would still consider them to be one of my favorite bands. Although they are not my favorites, I still love the albums that preceded Selling England by the Pound and the albums that follow Abacab. I may have put a few bands above Genesis, such as Yes, King Crimson and/or The Police.

Not enough to be answering this question on a fan board wink
