Yes I'm surprised Crowded House were quite good - as that Split Enz LP was so bad! They obviously had had time to develop for the better! grin

I LOVE Pi !!! But then I am a mathematician I guess! It is just such an original idea to put Pi to music!! But then I guess Kate is full of original ideas! grin

I am sorry to hear you think that Ian. sad I think that Architecture And Morality is a great album from start to finish. As well as the 3 singles that were released, I think that She's Leaving and Georgia would also have made great singles. Sealand and the title track are interesting more experimental pieces and the former could be described as quite progressive. Finally the opening and closing tracks - The New Stone Age and The Beginning And The End - are notable for being guitar driven. I think that The New Stone Age in particular is a blinding track and a long way from what you might be expecting. Still, each to their own I suppose.

i really wanted to like it, local lads and a reference to a local area: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sealand,_Flintshire

They also referred to Stanlow Refinery in the song Stanlow on the previous album Organisation. wink

Kate Bush's Aerial has been mentioned. I love Aerial, whilst 50 Words For Snow -her latest album- did disappoint me. Anyway, I wouldn't regret buying a new studio album by an artist that I'm a fan of, just because I don't happen to like it. Kate (in this case) released an album with new material and many fans didn't like it, but at least she tried. Besides, since I own it, I can have an opinion on it.

Having said this, there are certainly some albums that make me wonder what the hell I was thinking when I bought them: the debut album by Macy Gray, a live album by Jimi Hendrix where the songs are about 15 minutes long on average, a compilation of the Blow Monkeys...

There is usually a lot of jamming during a live rock show. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I do enjoy it.

Now, I did go looking as I knew there was another track with a local basis, but I thought it was called Shotwick.

I purchased 5 Blues Traveler CDs at once based on one song I heard on the radio. Big mistake. They were a one-hit wonder.

All of these are absolutely horrible IMO -
Kate Bush - Aerial
Robert Plant - Mighty Rearranger
Rush - Roll The Bones
Chester Thompson - A Joyful Noise

The first disc of Aerial is poor, bar a couple of tracks, but disc 2 is good. The Dreaming, however, IS awful.

I'm stunned! Admiitedly I'm a kate bush bush devotee but Aerial and The Dreaming are among my all time favourite albums. Pi is a bit odd but being odd has always been part of Kate's appeal. She sings it beautifully and also moving getting inside the the passion of a man that whose passion is seen by others as boring. . Admittly Bertie should have remained a private little song for her little boy to be sung at home rather than put on an album so i try to pretend its not there.

Every moment of the Dreaming is marvellous. Get Out of My House is my favourite - Chilling. I find both albums stunning. Both though , as with all her stuff took some time for me really get into and grew on me rather than hitting me instantly .

As I said, I love Kate's Aerial. 50 Words For Snow didn't grown on me so much, but I see it was well intentioned. It seems like certain artists can't move an inch from what their fans expect them to do... And this applies to Genesis too.

Hi there

I think the album I most regret buying was Michael Nyman's sountdrack to The Draftsman's Contract film. The opening theme was wonderful but the rest of it was cr*p and I don't even recall most of it being used in the film which is brilliant by the way.

Hi there

Look at it another way. Most forumites evidently have such impeccable good taste that dross never even makes it into their collections in the first place wink
