Redeemed by the inclusion of Take my breath away, brilliant song, superbly sung. There was a TV show a few years back where people reprised soundtrack hits they'd done. Terri Nunn came on and I expected a disappointment. Couldn't have been more wrong, she was brilliant.

Remember, Terri Nunn is also responsible for this early 80s gem. I saw them perform at the US Festival in 1983. Another band at the same festival, headed by Terry Bozzio and his then wife Dale Bozzio, went by the name of Missing Persons grin They each had a few hits in that decade. Very dated today though.

Re: Aerial. I admit Bertie is embarrassing and Pi is just taking the piss! King Of The Mountain I still feel was the wrong choice as a single.

Yes, I remember Missing Persons too, though I think they never charted in the UK. Warren Cuccurullo went on to be guitarist for a while in Duran Duran, during which they made their best song (IMO) - Ordinary World:

Yes, great song. Reminds a bit of Pink Floyd, actually!

As I've already given the Exile On Main Street example several times, here's another album I wish I hadn't bought: The second Orange Goblin album, The Time Travelling Blues.

I bought the first one, Frequencies From Planet Ten, after hearing the tracks on YouTube and I actually really liked them. I think their debut is pretty cool; heavy metal with psychedelic and experimental qualities. But their second album is far less ambitious; it just sounds like an ordinary metal album and it unlike the first album, it grows tiresome quickly, with the same riffs repeated over and over again. It wasn't worth the money, and I haven't bought anything from them since.

When i first started this thread i hoped it was going to be tacken tounge in cheek and even with a touch of self mockery (just look at my choices), but it seems to be getting a bit too serious, though if that's the way others want it to be then so be it.

Mine was OMD - Architecture and Morality. 3 great singles. which I now have on a best of compilation. The album was donated to my old hospital radio station!

I am sorry to hear you think that Ian. sad I think that Architecture And Morality is a great album from start to finish. As well as the 3 singles that were released, I think that She's Leaving and Georgia would also have made great singles. Sealand and the title track are interesting more experimental pieces and the former could be described as quite progressive. Finally the opening and closing tracks - The New Stone Age and The Beginning And The End - are notable for being guitar driven. I think that The New Stone Age in particular is a blinding track and a long way from what you might be expecting. Still, each to their own I suppose.

I remember loving the song I Got You by Split Enz. I never got round to buying the single but found the LP True Colours with it on a few years later - so I bought it! - And it was DREADFUL!!

I Got You still sounded great - but the rest of the album was pretty bad from what I remember! I think it's one of the few LPs I've bought and only ever played once!! tongue

Actually - if I remember rightly - I bought another horrific LP by the group Exile - because I liked the song Kiss You All Over - but that was pretty bad too!

So Exile and Split Enz LPs for me! - Each had a great single on it - but the rest was pretty awful and needless to say they both ended up down in the Oxfam shop!! undecided

I love I Got You, but then again it's the only Split Enz song I know. embarassed Still, at least Split Enz morphed into the very good band Crowded House. smiley
