Given no one has mentioned anything by Crazy Frog, Jive Bunny, Middle of the Road or Ernie by Benny Hill I can only assume people on here must like them... wink

Joking apart, there are a few supposed classic hits which make me reach for the "off" button......

Running Up That Hill - sorry to all Kate Bush fanboys
Gold - Spandau Ballet
We Built This City - Starship
Living On A Prayer - Bon Jovi

Middle of the Road were ok at what they did, and Running up that hill was brilliant, but otherwise I agree. The thing with Crazy Frog was it was built around a joke sound file someone went to Johnnie Walker, who is a Harley man. (The Motor bikes, not Steve!) - it was a man doing a vocal impression of a moped.

'Lifted' - The Lightshitehouse Family (abysmal vocals)
'Search for the Hero Inside Yourself' - M People (gag!)
'Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats and Dogs' - Brian & Michael (its grim oop north! - even the artist name is $hite)
'Disco Duck' - Rick Dees & Cast of Idiots - (I have no words)
'I Remember Elvis Presley' - Danny Mirror (heinous cash-in on the death of the King of R&R)
'Under the Moon of Love' - Showaddywaddy ( cry)

Soley Soley was better, I have to admit, and the Birdy song was a rip off of a Dutch track called "Tchip Tchip" by Cash & Carry.

And I don't begrudge Lena Martell her 15 minutes of fame, she had an audience and worked away in the underclass of music for years. This was her pension I guess.

I also find it interesting that some of the songs people can't stand are ones I really like, not just tolerate but really like:

Shiny Happy People - dumb yes, but catchy and fun. This is the REM song I would first play for kids. In fact they reworked it for Sesame Street.
I Will Always Love You - sure Whitney's version was over the top, but Dolly Parton (who wrote it) can do it very nicely.
I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - I never grow tired of this, even though it is more of a strutting song than a dancing song.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - perfectly captures a sense of giddy enthusiasm, but I understand why it can be really grating at the same time.

One song I loathe:
Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams - nearly every single phrase in the lyrics is a hackneyed cliche.
