These albums are the top 10 Prog albums according to progarchives (http://www.progarchives.com/top-prog-albums.asp) minus Foxtrot and SEBTP. (It's not fair to include Genesis here grin )Which is your favorite?
I have all these albums except "Animals" (which I may be getting soon) and I choose ITCOTCK. (I love King Crimson) but some of these others are really great.

Yes - Close To The Edge

Though to be honest, I don't consider any of these to be full-on masterpieces. Great albums yes, but not masterpieces in my book. However, CTTE is closest to a masterpiece to me. An absolutely brilliant epic followed by two shorter but still very good songs. smiley

They are the highest rated prog rock albums by hundreds and in some cases thousands of prog rock fans. That is as good a definition of masterpiece as I can think of. Having said that, I am not a massive fan of all of them.

The trilogy of Larks Tongues in Aspic, Red, and Starless and Bible Black are as good as any albums recorded by Crimson, but Red is the superior choice.Play it LOUD !!!! Some great albums on the list, but nothing beats Red.

Red and Wish You Were Here were the only albums that I considered besides ITCOCK (not that the others aren't great). That said, Larks is my favorite KC, while SaBB is my least favorite of their albums from 69-74.

It's an interesting list, but what surprises me is that VDGG Godbluff is their above imho the far superior Pawn Hearts album. Also interesting to note that DSOTM is behind WYWH in the poll at th moment. Both are excellent Floyd albums but i still prefer The Wall ( I was a spotty 15 yr old teenager when this was released in 1980, and for me was the gateway to everything prog, and then found Games Without Frontiers, followed quickly by SEBTP ,and the world of Genesis.) cheesy

Like I said, I think all these albums except for one are very good (VDGG's Godbluff is the only exception for me), but I have different favourite albums by all of these bands:

My favourite Yes album is Fragile.
My favourite Jethro Tull album is Aqualung.
My favourite Pink Floyd album is Atom Heart Mother.
My favourite King Crimson album is Lizard.
My favourite Van Der Graaf Generator album is H To He, Who Am The Only One.

I wonder if Hackenbacker would call me a hipster. grin

Dark Side of the Moon for me, although Wish You Were Here comes a close second.

They are voluntary contributions and votes based on reviews from (as Nigel said), thousands of prog rock fans and so a valid list of the out and out classics.

If you look further down the top 100 you will find Camel represented very well wink

Anyway, have you heard all those albums? wink
