Interesting that no one picked a song from The Lamb. Other albums not represented: FGTR, ATTWT and CAS.

Even non-album tracks are represented.

I also noticed almost nobody would really show them anything after Abacab, mainly skipping the 80's and 90's for the most part. (a couple mentioned Mama, but that's it really.)

Odd, as I consider Genesis later material just as "defining" as their 70's era material.

Abacab, Home by the sea, 2nd home, Mama as you said, Domino, TTT and No son of Mine, have all been mentioned....

Good suggestions all-around - good points in deciding which tracks to have depending on the person.

Most people I know are familiar with Genesis, mostly by the hits, and occasionally they know something like The Brazilian.

For those folks who "think they know" what the band is all about, I try to surprise them with ones like:

Blood on the Rooftops (gets 'em almost every time - it's so good and so 'unlike' the Genesis they know)

Dodo/Lurker (from note 1 it's all cylinders firing + a little funk and people are almost shocked)

In that Quiet Earth (preferably live '84 or '86 because of the heavy guitar and driving beat by Chester Thompson - almost metal)

The Lamb is my favourite Genesis album but I didn't pick one from that as I interpreted the question as the three most representative tracks. I don't think the Lamb is very representative of Genesis, which is one of the main reasons I love it so much.

Hmmmm...well I mentioned No Son of Mine.

I kind of re-breezed thru the thread before posting that. Maybe I should've breezed a little less breezy...
