BTW It would have been very cool if this song had been the last one on the album, really a powerful ending. And the atmosphere of this song fits so fine to the album cover.

Yes, they should have skipped FYTM! lipsrsealed

grin grin

Yes - to me, The Lady Lies was the last in a great run of Genesis epics from the 70s - so it's quite ironic that it was followed with FYFM on the album - a taste of things to come in the 80s alas ... undecided

Why not just nominate "The Duke Suite" as one of your tracks and sneak in six tracks in one?! grin wink

I don't think it's hate. Quite a few ATTWT fans, myself included, just feel that FYFM is musically very different to the rest of the album and arguably feels a bit out of place. Even producer David Hentschel didn't want it included on the album. I think that it is an OK track, nothing more nothing less.

I'm not denying there's some hatred towards FYFM, but then most Genesis songs are probably hated by at least one person on this forum. wink

Got that right wink

Strange how hatred for one song manages to morph itself into hatred for an entire era though. Just saying undecided

Only to the purists. Remember that virtually everybody on this forum has respect for the entire Genesis history. The only time I've seen full-on hatred for the post-Hackett stuff and Phil Collins is in, surprise surprise, YouTube comments, written by smug jerks who think they're superior and untainted because of it. If they dared come here and say that stuff, they'd be ridiculed on here.

Yes, actually, when you think about how long Genesis' career lasted and the many different musical changes & styles throughout - it's a wonder there isn't a lot more conflict of opinions on the forum!

Basically, I find everyone on this forum respectful and polite to each other even when we disagree on each other's musical taste! I have been on the forum 6 years now and hardly ever have seen a cross word!

At the end of the day - we all know that Genesis were possibly the greatest band ever - in more ways than one, so whether we like an album or not or that decade or not - we all have the same mutual admiration for the group! smiley
