Maybe by hearing Seconds Out first has ruined it for me.

It may have done the same thing for me. What attracted me to Genesis--aside from having a phenomenal left-handed drummer--was how well they performed. They could like . . . you know . . . play instruments! User Image

So I really enjoyed their live music. For example, I loved the studio "Abacab" when I heard it on the radio, but never heard the instrumental part since radio is fascist and hates kittens. When I got the album I found the instrumental part . . . well . . . disappointing. "Feh!" Live--either Three Sides Live or the gazillions of live versions since--it is phenomenal. Not to denigrate their studio work, but they really seem to "Go to Eleven!" live. I would contrast this to the music Me Sis listened to--various electronic industrial cacophonations ["Cacophonations?"--Ed.] that were said to come from Germany but were really congealed on a computer in Arizona--and not one of those "bands" would you ever wish to hear play live. Without all of the "studio" effects, they were nothing.

So back to Seconds Out there really is not a bad track--I miss the piano intro to "Firth of Fifth" and often add it on to live versions I have because . . . I can! Otherwise, powerful stuff. So then we go to albums that have not been "digitally remastered" with "lots of doubly" and all of that and it does not sound as good. In a way, it would be like me saying "Peter SUCKS" because I am judging his singing before his prime and completely ignoring 35+ years of his other stuff. And if one does not "get into" "Shock the Monkey" then one is a Communist who Hates the Queen, baseball, apple pie, and kittens!!

Being Me Sis we had to disagree on most Matters of Taste [Tm.--Ed.]. The one band I recall her enjoying was Ultravox and she was a big fan of Mitch Uri.

She also had a doubtful commitment to Sparkle Motion. . . .

1) Dance on a Volocano- The song of my soul. It got me into Genesis and I think it might have made me who I am.

2) Domino- The song of my heart. I really think this spurred my Genesis love. Holds a serious place in my heart.

3) All In A Mouse's Night- Song of my youth. It really made Genesis interesting for me when I was young.

4) Way of the World- This song has helped me at some rough points in my life. As I say, I owe a life debut to this song.

5) The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway- Another song of my youth, and a true marvel of music.

This was so hard to choose for 3 downward.

How many people know that "Midge" is a variant of his real name "Jim" spelt backwards? wink

That is an interesting, bold and refreshing top 5, H' wink

I really like all of them but 2 of those get regularly slated for some reason (3 and 4 wink)

I did, but it's one of those random things I remember which isn't very useful, whereas I do forget things like where I left my keys, which are far more important!

Before I read that I'd always assumed that Midge was short for "midget", as I know that he isn't very tall. grin

I did not chose them based on musical prospects, I choose them because these were the songs that made me who I am now. Even though I discovered a few of them later in my life, they still had a profound impact. They are almost sacred songs for me. Those, and the entire A Trick of the Tail album.

That made me smile. Given how young you are, there’s no phrase sufficient to express the antiquity of someone like me who only discovered the whole 4/5 man era about a year ago cheesy
