xx top five Genesis songs
« Thread started on: Jan 19th, 2013, 4:11pm »

Pigeon`s survivor threads leave me somehow unsatisfied. Because many songs, I love get voted out early, whereas songs, which don`t mean much to me survive. So I feel the urge to post my top five Genesis tracks:

1. The Cinema Show
2. You Might Recall
3. Duchess
4. Unquiet Slumber For The Sleepers In That Quiet Earth
5. Stagnation

Feel free to post your personal top five.

Beyond my 2 favourites, "Supper's Ready" and "The Cinema Show", I find it very hard to pick them out of the pack. However, if you want to know 3 more, I'd say the next 3 most consistently brilliant are "Blood on the Rooftops", "Afterglow" and "The Carpet Crawlers".

Yes - I agree - Some of the REAL favourites came in at about 2nd or 3rd place! undecided

My top 5 are:-

1) Entangled
2) Suppers Ready
3-5) The Lamb/Dance on a Volcano/The Lady Lies

After Supper's Ready my favourites change from week to week! cheesy

So everybody else is wrong, huh? wink

Looking at your top 5, perhaps the only surprise was Entangled not winning ATOTT. Respectfully, The Lamb and The Lady Lies stood no chance.

I can’t do this by track alone as there are just too many contenders to come up with only 5 undecided
I can only do it by specifying the version:

1) I know what I like – Shepperton film 1973
2) Supper’s Ready - Shepperton film 1973
3) Giant Hogweed - Belgian TV 1972
4) Stagnation – Rome live 1972
5) Firth of Fifth - album version

Toughie question but today I would say:

I know what I like ....... my Genesis anthem
Suppers Ready ....... just the most epic track ever
Firth of Fifth ....... surely one of the best guitar solos
Dance on a Volcano ...... excellent stuff
Riding the Scree ........ great sound and feel to this

Toomorrow it would probably five different tracks though lol

As I said before there has been surprises but none so radical, when a song is in the top three, it is safe to say the polls are reliable, then of course we all have our pet songs whatever the reasons, I love Open Door but I am perfectly aware it is not the song Genesis will be remembered by, nor will it be mentioned in a VH1 documentary on the band, just like You might recall or the lady lies. I would suggest we all like what we like without asking permission or being sorry for it but also try to be realistic about it, I absolutely adore MMM but I expected Entangled to win and maybe it should have. Questioning the polls or being disappointed because OUR song didn't win or even made it second seems with all due respect a bit strange to me.
