Best Genesis Intro?

For me it has to be either:-
i) The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (The first 50 seconds) or ii) Dance On A Volcano

God, so many to choose from.
The ticking of the clock that starts No Son Of Mine; the weird keyboard sound before the drums kick in of Jesus He Knows Me; the drum intro to Land Of Confusion; the infectious riff at the start of Throwing It All Away; the crash of drums that begins Squonk; the guitar riff at the start of Dance On A Volcano; the doomy Mellotron at the beginning of Watcher Of The Skies; Peter's unaccompanied voice at the start of Supper's Ready or Dancing With The Moonlit Knight; the claustrophobic drum machine that heralds the beginning of Mama...
Be quicker to list their worst intros than their best I think!

I’ll skip the obvious and famous ones for once and go with Heathaze: delicate , evocative and haunting. All in a few seconds.

Cinema Show, Musical Box - great for sure. I like No son of mine intro too...and Mama, of course. But my favourite is Carpet Crawlers, I suppose.

Another very hard question to answer. I could name several - Looking For Someone Los Endos Wot Gorilla The Musical Box Dancing With The Moonlit Knight
But, overall, I have to go with:
Watcher Of The Skies
A fantastic, stately, atmospheric and very effective opening. Magnificent.

Indeed. Either as an opener or a closer, it really does raise goosebumps.
How about Back In NYC? A grand beginning to a song, for sure.

A grand beginning, getting even grander still as the song progresses!

From beginning to end, it rocks out, that is true. I love the big bad bass note that comes when Peter sings about burning the trash of progressive hypocrites. Overall it is in itself a very forward-thinking piece of music, truly progressive when so much at the time was stale and repetitive.
Back In NYC should have its own thread!
