Thought I'd resurrect this thread again as I was just watching TOTP 1979 and realised another misheard lyric. grin

For all those years I wondered what on earth a foggle was, in Art Garfunkel's Bright Eyes:

"There's a foggle on the horizon."

Hearing it tonight I thought I'd look it up! It's "There's a fog along the horizon!" grin grin grin Peeing meself laughing now!

What is Peter singing in Back in NYC at about 3:30? It sounds like "up beat blue" but I don't think those are the correct lyrics...

Got my own misheard lyric I realised at the weekend.
I always though in Ripples it was......

For now her face looks strange.

When in fact its
For an hour a man must change

rolleyes

Misheard it the same way. undecided

Not so much misheard lyrics but didn't hear any lyrics at all when I first heard the Illegal Alien section of the Old Medley.

As someone who worked backward through the majority of the Genesis catalogue I didn't have the original track for reference so until I bought the Shapes album I thought Phil was just warbling incoherently in some sort of Collinsese.

Away from Genesis, I always hear the line "This is a tricky situation" from Queen's It's A Hard Life as: This is a triggy situation.

My best friend Lee, who's also a massive Genesis fan (though not on this forum, because he prefers Facebook rolleyes) used to think the line went "Fading-ding stoplights." laugh

He's not the only one. Always thought it was an awkward way of getting the words to fit the melody! grin

Aha, that makes sense! Thanks! I love the way he annunciates it, even though (to my ears, anyway) I had no idea what he was really saying.

Hi there

Another classic mishearing of early lyrics was...

Mother born of a pirate which should read... mother faun of a pine wood. I always remember Anthony Phillips laughing his head off when he read that in an early edition of TWR.

"Pacidy." I had to find that via Google, though -- as frequently as I listen to that & other miscellaneous Genesis songs, I wouldn't have recognized the line either.

Glad it wasn't just me. I listen to songs like Pacidy from time to time, but don't know it well enough the recognise the lyrics out of context.

I barely listen to any of the Genesis music before Trespass; I have little interest in it.

In my opinion, there is some good stuff released after From Genesis To Revelation but before Trespass.

Do you mean recorded after FGTR but before Trespass? They didn't really release anything between those albums.
