Carpet Crawlers;

"like a forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree, they are pulled up by their madness, believing they're free."

I thought it made complete sense. I mean it would be madness for a tree in the forest to believe it could ever be free. So where the hell did magnet come from? How does that make sensehuh

I will most likely continue to sing it my way.

Due to Peter’s distinctive habit of sometimes adding an extra syllable into a word, I misheard the line in Supper’s Ready:
“The order for rejoicing and dancing has come from our warlord”
as
“The order for rejoicing and dancing has come from Our Lord”
which fits in quite well given the various apocalyptic references in the song.

The magnet is a metaphor for the sunlight making the trees grow upwards.

The trees think they are reaching upwards to get closer to the sunlight, unaware that it's the sunlight making them rise regardless. smiley

Can't imagine what you're talking about.

Unless it's: Better activate my prayer capsule-la?

Or maybe: Can you tell me where my ick-country lies?

Or perhaps: Time left to live out my ill-life? (Come to think of it, I originally thought that's what the line actually said.)

The best apology you can give for how you've lived your life in the past is to change it completely.

Yes, "prayer capsule-la" is one of my favourites, & there are plenty of other examples like “Their power is growing-er” & “herbicidal battery-ing” from Hogweed.

Then there’s that vocal quaver that lengthens some syllables like “Mr Le-ew-is”, “out on his ow-wwn” & “garden wa-all” in IKWIL. You get so used to those little idiosyncrasies that when you hear a version where he just sings the word normally you feel almost cheated wink

I used to hear "my e-life" and was wondering what the hell he's talking of. Electric life? Ecstasy life? Till I read the lyrics. cheesy

Actual: "A young figure sits still by a pool"

In the cage: I heard "52nd street" instead of "22nd street". It couldn't be a reference to Billy Joel's album, because it hadn't been released yet.

Just watching the Hairy Bikers and as they're making a chicken tikka, the music playing in the background is Abba's Chiquitita. grin grin grin

Another misheard, from Watcher Of The Skies:

Real lyric: Come ancient children, hear what I say.
Misheard lyric: Carnation children, U.S.A.

In "Squonk" when Phil says "He's a sly one, he's a shy one, wouldn't you be too?" I used to think he was just saying "doobedoo". Judging from her singing along, my mother (who has an original vinyl of the album) still thinks that that's what Phil's saying! grin

I mentioned this one before but since it's now buried in the depths of the forum:

Los Endos, real lyrics: "There's an angel standing in the sun - freed to get back home"
Misheard: "There's an angel standing in the sun, ladies and gentlemen, woohoo!"

wink

Not a Genesis one but I was watching an old Top of the Pops the other night (funnily enough Genesis were on) and Dr. Hook came on singing More Like the Movies. I always thought it was bad grammar when he sang "technicolour way" thinking he was singing "technicaller" - as in more technical. grin
