The Wikipedia entry on SMALLCREEP'S DAY (citing the "Mike on Mike" interview LP) mentions how Mike said making the album "forced him to learn more about vocals, drums, and keyboards than he had known before."

Having just listened to the album, I wonder... what kind of things did he have to learn? (Not that I expect anyone to actually know this.)

And whatever he learned, he used that knowledge on his next album, Acting Very Strange? grin

I consider Smallcreep's Day an excellent album, by the way.

Well, maybe he used what he learned about drums. As for vocals and keyboards, well... rolleyes

I think this is just a general statement, he gained experience from working with other musicians who expected him to tell them what he expected them to do for his songs - which is pretty different from working in a band like Genesis in which every member tries to push their own ideas through.
