xx Patiently awaiting the new album :)
« Thread started on: Jul 15th, 2016, 11:52am »

It has been talked about a little in some other threads, but it feels like the moment might be getting closer so I thought I would create a new thread to add little bits of news about the album as it comes. (or maybe I'm just overly keen?)

The band recently posted on Twitter that the new album has "gone in one end of the pipeline. Now it's somewhere between there and the other end." (https://twitter.com/officialmatm/status/750010139915251712)

They did two new songs at the Isle of Wight festival last month, and you can hear them here: http://absoluteradio.co.uk/competitions/absolute-radio-live/2016/ (they are towards the middle of the recording).

Personally, I think they sound incredible and even stronger than The Road (which I liked a lot).

Now this I can look forward to! I have never bought a Mechanics album - I recently purchased the double CD set of The Singles.

Have they ever toured in Australia?

I had lost interest in the Mechanics some time after the "Beggar" - album. "The Road" was really a revelation. Great songs which profited a lot from the new singers, especially Roachford. I saw the band live during that tour and they were amazing, much more, than when I had seen them the time before in the late eighties.

Therefore, I am really looking forward to their new release as well.

No, never. But they actually had five planned concerts in Australia in 1989 that were cancelled. See http://www.genesis-movement.co.uk/php/listtour.php?tourid=99

That's some exciting news! Yes, real "exciting news"! grin I like The Road a lot and am looking forward to the new album. But with this cryptic tweet I doubt it will be released this year.

It would have been great to listen to the Isle of Wight festival recording, but it's unlistenable because the buffering doesn't work properly for me. I will have to try it at another computer some time.

It seems MTM is more active nowadays than ever. They have been on tour every year since 2010. They should have enough live recordings to be able to release a live album at some time.

Listening now - thanks for the link - I have to say Roachford sounds amazing on 'Let Me Fly' - great Gospel feel in the 2nd half - a real anthem and rather nice to hear the old Roland drum machine on the intro.

Lyrics on the first one could do with one more pass through the editing process imho, but the music sounds great.

If you do enjoy the Singles, then I would certainly suggest checking out the albums. There are some real gems in their discography smiley

Interesting to hear you say they were more amazing than when you saw them in the 80s! I haven't had the chance to see them live yet, only through recordings. The new line-up just seems to get better and better as they work together (which is to be expected, but still!)

No, definitely not this year, but I have hopes for next year! Especially as they have a tour early in 2017 which doesn't have a name indicative necessarily of advertising something new.

Sorry the recording isn't working for you! They have been very active, with a handful of shows this summer and then more coming up in September. It would be very nice to eventually get a live album and DVD.

Let Me Fly really sounds strong! I know they've had this one in their pocket for a while from other show reports. The second one sounds less practised (I don't know if it's newer?) but I love the tune.

It was during the Living Years tour. They were supported by IQ, of whom I had never heard before and who are one of my all time favorite bands ever since. Actually IQ played the Mechanics against the wall that day. I remember it vividly.

Saw IQ around 12 times live since then.

I saw the Mechanics supported by IQ in Manchester - fantastic night, both bands on fine form.

I really enjoy the new line-up. The Road was an excellent album, and they're superb live (seen them three times).

Five years since The Road, it's definitely time for some new music.

I think that setlist is wrong; they did a Ready song but it wasn't the Roachford one.

I thought it was new, but I could be wrong.

I stand corrected. After comparing the two songs-the new one and the Roachford song, this is a new song too!

The new album was announced at a Munich concert last night apparently..
"A new MIKE + THE MECHANICS studio album will be out next year. Yesterday, during their show in Munich, the two new songs were announces as "from the new album that comes out in 2017" and "Let Me Fly" was described as the "title track from the new record"
