Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Southampton 19th October cool

Noel McCalla has unsurprisingly left the band today by mutual consent (which could means he was sacked!) to persue alternative musical directions.
The new singer's details are unknown at present but will feature live for the first time at Southampton.

I am naturally quite disappointed because in my opinion he was the best singer the band ever had (and i include my all time favourite musician, the fabulous Mick Rogers and of course Chris Thompson). He was loved by all of the fans, for that there is no doubt. See the following links, the second one started by Mick Rogers.

However 18 years with one band is a long time in anyones book and he wants to explore new possibilities, presumably in the soul arena and i know he sings in a jazz band. Also keep an eye out on the upcoming X Factor shows where he is a competitor (long story!).

I always think it is a pity that MMEB don't produce enough albums and vary the setlist enough (they have a huge back catalogue). 18 years for Noel reads 1 studio album (part contribution) and 1 live album (part contribution) !!

I am very impressed with the fortitude of the band for continuing and it seems they have already found a new singer who will no doubt sing the songs with new style and interpretation, so i am confident for the future. Manfred Mann always has the knack of finding tremendous musicians and at nearly 70 he amazes me with his staying power, still doing around 50 odd gigs a year!

Gavin Condor stood in for Noel at the two Norwegian gigs in July which I was lucky enough to see. Good singer but his voice just wasn't strong enough to carry the likes of Martha's Madman and The Mighty Quinn. Noel will be missed for sure but we move on with enthusiasm and I will see the new singer unveiled at The Brook in Southampton on October 19th.
