Strawbs gig was excellent and a nice audience who for the most part where well behaved. A couple near me got a little too drunk and had to be told to "shut it" which they duly did grin

Set list was really all you could want from a band with a 40 year track list. I stayed sober (was the driver) so here is what we heard:

Kicked off with Lay Down and then in no certain order:

New World
You and I
Grace Darling (best ever version I have heard with gorgeous synth/sampled choirs)
Autumn
The River/Down by the sea
Hero and Heroine
Here today, gone tomorrow
Out in the Cold/Round and Round
Burning for You
Broken Hearted Bride (from new album out in Sep)
The Call to Action (from new album too and this is classic Strawbs and a real return to form - awesome)
Heartbreaker

Encore: We'll meet again sometime

The band were superb but Dave's vocals got lost in the mix at times particularly in the rockier numbers. Dave Lambert was superb on lead and John Hawkins did a sterlining job on keys. Bass and drums were as good as ever from Cronk and Coombes. We even were treated to a drum solo.

For those who are yet to see the band, enjoy it and hearing the old stuff is wonderful after a long number of years. I would have liked to have heard 'Ghosts' but they did play that on the last tour so Grace Darling made up for it and my night. Simply a gorgeous song.

The Strawbs

I saw this band 2 years ago here in Canada and agree Dave Cousin's voice was a little off putting at times.. Musically this band is awesome and some wonderfull tracks here!

Nik is very under-rated much like A-Ha were as most thought they were only good for the pop songs and yet on all of their albums they demonstrated a power beyond mere pop. Memorial Beach is just a sublime album and the most adventurous of their back catalogue. Btw, I have all the A-Ha albums so they can't be bad, can they?

Will be ordering them this week mate - my son wants one and I want him to give me the money first grin He is 24 now so he can afford his own. I also think Mike wants to come along so he and I will touch base on this but will def be there on the night bud.

Yeah! I'd love to see the one of the best vocalists in rock! I really like his album "Music For The Divine."

When he joined Deep Purple in 1973, along with David Coverdale, he helped them to make some of Deep Purple's best music ever. "Stormbringer" is fantastic! Enjoy the gig!
