Manfred Mann's Earth Band (supporting 3 chord Status Quo last night)

Well the gig the guys put on last night was top drawer.
I have seen the band play loads of times and i have to say that the audio quality was by far the best i have heard in many a year. No surprise because i have seen some great bands play great shows at the Glasgow SECC (Peter Gabriel, Rush, Yes, War Of The Worlds, Neil Diamond) and they have all been excellent. So last night for me was a great opportunity for the band to show off their musicianship to a wider audience (around 8000 maybe?) and they simply nailed the performance, which started off with Stout; OMG what a great opener that turned out to be.

So well done to the band.
Being many metres back from the front row, I for once realised that I couldn't see Manfred at all as he was hiding behind his keyboards. Maybe he should rearrange his keyboards to be more visible?
Noel's voice was utterly fantastic and Mick and Steve's guitars were awesome as usual. Did you hear me shout Mick?!

A word of praise for Jimmy. It was the first time i have seen him and I was extremely impressed. What a powerhouse drummer! And he nailed the whole set. Maybe Manfred could make room for a drum solo in future?

I hope the band make some new fans from these gigs and come back again to Scotland in the near future. I'm sure the audience numbers could make the band some decent money and i'm sure there would be some Quo fans attending! And there are us Scottish fans who i've no doubt would help out with some local promoting........just a thought

All-in-all I would say the band were rewarded well for their efforts last night. I saw lots of clapping, smiling faces and praise especially for Noel's voice and Mick's guitar playing. My friend who was there primarily to see the Quo, remarked that "wow, these guys really know how to play"
Nuff said!

Sadly it's Status Quo next month. Well it's a birthday present for the missus.

But next May looks promising with 10 cc. OK, only Graham Gouldman from the original lineup but some great musicians including Rick Fenn and Paul Burgess smiley

looking forwars to next year with IQ, Gazpacho, Porcupine Tree already planned and some others coming up.

In a totally different vein I Saw Kraak & Smaak yesterday at the Amsterdam Paradiso: hard hirring Funk & techno with lots of great effects and humour - a different crowd from normally but very worthwhile

Well Merlin take some hearing protection cos the Quo cranked up the volume at Glasgow. I would best descibe it as a "sea of noise"

Each to their own i suppose grin

I have to admit that the band did play a lot of old songs going right back to the late 60's. But all in the same chord rolleyes

Enjoy the concert mate, a pity The Earth Band are not supporting the rest of the tour!
