Straighten Out (Stranglers tribute), Friday 24th January, Ruislip.

Excellent gig again. cool It's interesting that on their website, they make it clear that their mission statement is to re-create the sound of the early Stranglers. Thus they have pretty much stuck to the first 3 albums every time I have seen them. Last time they played at Ruislip, the promoter's post-gig e-mail said that he thought they were great but that he wished they'd played a few more hits, e.g. Golden Brown. Surprisingly to me, they listened to him and so this time, in addition to the early stuff we got:

Duchess
Golden Brown (introduced with "and now for the bleedin' obvious!" grin)
Strange Little Girl
European Female
Always The Sun
96 Tears

I could tell from the band members' faces that they weren't overly impressed playing these hits. However, being excellent musicians, they did a very professional job even though Golden Brown without a real harpsichord sounded slightly strange.

Excellent musicians and a lead vocalist who sounded uncannily like Gordon Sumner. I'll even forgive them for having the keyboards on the Ghost In The Machine/Synchronicity tracks played by good old Macbook Pro. wink The great thing about seeing a Police tribute band is that the original band only released 5 studio albums. Thus you get to hear half a dozen or so album tracks plus, to the best of my knowledge, every UK hit single. cool
